  1. Congrats on taking the plunge! It was one of the best investments I ever made, it gives you so much flexability. You can even order the sound files from places like Wheeltappers and load them to the decoders yourself if you like. It's great that you can download the software for free and try it before you even buy the programmer. It's not to hard to get to grips with the basics. If I can help at all just message me, I'm based in Dublin as well. Have joined ESU IO group? It's a great resource for information. https://groups.io/g/Loksound
  2. There are a couple of 645 files that are suitable for the 071 which are the 12 cylinder version, but to be honest you can use the 16 cylinder versions as well. It would very difficult to tell the difference sound-wise in 00 scale models. You can also use the same file in multiple models and subtly change the sound of each one with certain settings on the Lokprogrammer.
  3. Jesus, £133? Factor in the exchange rate and possible import duty and that could get expensive very quickly! Blank Loksound decoders are available for €100 from Germany. The ESU software will run an pretty much any old windows PC without any issues. The any ESU decoder can be reblown with the Lokprogrammer, including the Murphy ones.
  4. Oh that’s for sure. I was just looking purely at available space at home for a layout. TT would give a little extra layout in the available space.
  5. Tillig make some lovely stuff. I seriously considered TT when I was getting back into the hobby, the only issue was availability.
  6. Thanks for going into detail. I really like the mixture of techniques especially washes and dry brushing (which really underrated technique that doesn't get enough love). You've struck a lovely balance and achieved an excellent finish. I don't think I've seen a better job anywhere else.
  7. Those container flats look fantastic. Can I ask what techniques/materials you used?
  8. Dealz sell small tins of yacht varnish that is surprisingly good.
  9. Can I ask how you contacted him to order?
  10. At around 4:55 that 141 starts belching out smoke like there's no tomorrow! I've seen similar videos of US EMD diesels doing the same thing.
  11. Yeah, fu*k that! It's hard enough to keep the track and layout clean without that going on.
  12. Ah sorry, I only uploaded to YouTube today. I had a feeling the video wasn’t working….
  13. We Ok here’s a quick video, please excuse the crappy quality! I haven’t had the chance to do any programming except for lowering the overall volume, which was deafening! A testament to excellent speaker set up in this model. Here’s a YouTube link….

  15. Ha! My first WAS a Lima Deltic. The freight set with the cargo crane. Bought in Easons with my communion money!
  16. Gave it a quick run-in when I got home from work, very impressive. Only got to play with it for an hour or so, damn attic is WAY too hot right now! I’ll try and get a video up in the next day or too for anyone who’s interested.
  17. Yeah that's a major feat of engineering there! I wonder did he use some of the empty space behind the see-through grill...
  18. It's an easy job with the Dapol Western, just bang in the decoder and speaker. There's room for a full size bass reflex speaker. Unlike the Heljan version which needs major surgery!
  19. Oh this is tempting.... What formations did these wagons run in? How many in a rake and did they run mixed with other stock?
  20. This was a present from Christmas 2020! Thought I’d give some BR a run in anticipation of the Deltic’s impending arrival. Soundfile is by Legomanbiffo.
  21. Ok, I watched part of the review and all I'll say is: 1) The slow speed performance. I don't think an hour is long enough of a run-in time to hang your conclusions on. I find it takes quite a bit longer to get optimum performance from a brand new motor and he's also using DC! 2) The couplers. He says there at the "wrong height". Does he realise there is no standard height for tension locks? We have a standard NEM pocket height but half the time it's not adhered to by manufactures and you often come across cranked couplers which can have them at any height! Not to mention the fact that every coupling he shows on his own stock seems to be drooping! Sorry for the rant.....
  22. Laid out on the floor! Oh I must find that one!
  23. Well I see Sam's Trains has a review up um Youtube. But you guys will have to tell me how it goes, 'coz I will not watch it!
  24. Actually the speaker can be wired to either the decoder or the circuit board in the loco. Wiring to the board is far more preferable, as wiring to the decoder itself takes some very delicate soldering.
