  1. ahhh thanks broithe
  2. Hello. Yes the clips are useful. They are known as scotch blocks I think or suitcase joiners. I found them on eBay. There's a few different makes on eBay. Feed in the two wires and close with pliers. That's it. You are looking at the underneath of my point switch box. It is fed with power from an old DC motor. I am DCC for train control but I note that dcc point control seems a little expensive for me at present. I have some surface mounted hornby point motors and some gauge master seep motors. I will stick up some better pictures of how they're wired up when I have a chance.
  3. I just had a good look at castle Street/ Ann street in Ballycastle Antrim, one of the 'classic' irish main streets, built in fits and starts a couple of hundred years ago. Took basic measurements from the kits and the ould house. It isnt prototypical of an exact building but just wanted something to fit in. Thanks! I do try....
  4. Jayzus forgot all about it. Was meant to be away. What are the times?
  5. Thank you very much. I have a Hornby deltic chassis (dcc) in mine and am pondering a couple of lights. In a couple of months I am going to get another kit and prob the studio scale model details too now that I am feeling more confident so I will try what you suggest.
  6. any tips on how to add LED lights to a Dcc a or c class ? Do I need a wired chip ?
  7. very nice indeed. Great scene.
  8. Started to wodk on a building to sit beside the bar. Inspired by the marvellous buildings in Ballycastle. Early days yet but hopefully i ll get the feeling right.
  9. If you look at this amazing layout you see the importance of both fitting together. http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/1102-Patricks-Layout/page36

    Happy Easter

happy easter my online friends. many thanks for a year of great advice!!!
  11. finished the non pprototypical track cleaning wagon
  12. Wiring does not come naturally. It almost does me head in!. I have a tendency to check and over think this aspect of the modelling. Reminded me though, that this hobby is a miss mash of so many skills. That's why it rocks!!! I deserve a pint in the auld house after wiring up a point motor.
  13. Thank you very much for the advice. I appreciate it greatly.
  14. Thanks folks. A lot to consider. There are plenty of 0-6-0 tender chassis out there dcc ready, but I figured it would be a shame not to be 100per cent prototypical on something like this. I converted a ring field Hornby DC motor to dcc by isolating sections of the live motor frame. Tricky but doable. Won't run slow, however like modern locos. I suppose there is only one way to find out, steal some money from the wife and order one!!!!!!
  15. I know I have a tendency to ask dopey questions, but I would like at some time to build one of the studio scale models brass loco kits in OO gauge. I would probably go for the famous J15. If I were to choose this loco, what are the options for Dcc conversion? has anyone done so? Again, sorry for my simple questions, but if I don't ask.....
  16. is that one of those gravity fed shunting yards common in the US ?
  17. Very interesting. I must try a metal kit but a little cautious and I keep getting distracted by other things. Are all the American locos for donors ? I often wonder why the ho american locos are quite cheap compared with oo gauge European stuff.
  18. Excellent. I like the plans.
  19. A ha ha haaaaaa. That is the funniest thing I have seen in a while. When I was a lad I remember using tea leaves as wagon loads. But that was easily sourced in the kitchen when mam wasn't looking. Ah the simple days before eBay.

  21. metcalfe call this a factory entrance, but I see a Convent or Monastery. it will sit on my Main Street as an overlooked feature of any large Irish town. the bell tower could be taller, the brick perhaps a little orangy but with a statue it will work.
