  7. before the modern era of celtic tiger blah blah, everything had value. I grew up in 70s 80s dublin and had two bikes stolen. one was locked the other, this fella knocked me off it and was away. What i am saying is, back then if it wasnt nailed down it was gone and that is just the way it was. perhaps why there is few plates etc compared to the english market.
  8. looks good to me! as good as my recent efforts at resprays ...oh and I am heading for 40 soon . So if you were that good around 12 well then you are laughing now! Fair play . it is nice to see modelling history. I wont show you my airfix cattle wagon kit build from years back...
  9. Hi there Dive Controller. I was at the show today and I picked up a Dawson Hall laser cut card kit of Dundalk Signal Cabin. I have not built it yet, but they had a model on display and it looked well. They also had a few other Irish style or actual Irish model building kits. I cant find their website right now but the email is on the kit: dawsonhallsales@jecdesign.com I will be building the kit over the next day or two, will post a pic for you to see. It might be of help - plus the fact that they are card kits/flat packed would keep the postage a bit lower for you. All the best.
  10. I was there myself today with the whole clan. The kids all loved it and herself was surprisingly impressed. First model railway exhibition in well over 20 years. at least. It was very enjoyable. I wanted to buy almost everything. In the end I settled for a Dawson Hall laser kit of Dundalk Signal Cabin. It will fit the layout somewhere. The wee display model they had looked the part. Then we all went out to Howth and had fish and chips in a rather warm October evening before hitting the M1 back north. A grand day out.
  11. gonna try a visit tomorrow. dust off the wallet.
  12. if we could get a hands on look at the chassis it would be easy to judge. depends if it has that extended flywheel malarky i suppose. from the specs given i wouldnt mind finding out more. I got rid of an old lima chassis and replaced it with dcc ready hornby chassis class 55 last week. I have it running on dcc now. it is running very well at very slow speed. I have it creeping at scale 7mph. It is smooth too. Just not as sturdy or weighted as a murphy chassis.
  13. the weathering is just incredible
  14. fascinating. this is a level of modelling i would be scared of!
  15. thanks. the slopey roof is not ideal for the backscene, but beggars cant be choosers.
  16. my first experiences of trains in real life was at my grans house in roscommon town. she lived across the road from the station. when visiting from dublin we were allowed to go and watch. there was also a sweet shop on the other side of the tracks. mam never bothered with the footbridge. we always crossed the in the lane by the level crossing. i have a clear memory of black and orange 141 or 181s. the noise of them as mich as anything. as the years rolled by i remember all sorts of trains in dublin. eventually spending a lot of time on the enterprise up and down to belfast. even recently there was plenty of freight. plenty of times i watched the guinness wagons near adelaide st. etc. I think it is daft in this whole era of global warming that the govs didnt bother subsidising the freight rail to reduce the number of lorries on the roads....
  17. been trying a little scenery in my branchline station. It will be a fictional spot just off the GNR somewhere. I'm finishing off a version inspired by knockmore signal cabin for the throat of the station. a small waiting room eventually on the platform. needs a little more scenic weeds etc but i am getting there...
  18. Hi Kirley - that is interesting about the double motor bogies. I might give it a go!
  19. Hi Noel, St Paddy is a Hornby Railroad loco number R2879. The guys here recommended it to me for my A Class (after I had discovered a Lima Class 55 chassis was a very por runner by modern standards). As Kirley says, it can be converted fairly easlily to suit the a class kit from silver fox models. Just Chop a section out of the middle and a little trim. The St Paddy chassis also comes with an 8 pin dcc socket, which makes things easy if you want digital control.
  20. knockmore signal cabin
  21. thanks. nice paint work
