  1. Some of the mechanics described in The Third Policeman wouldn't out of place on a steam locomotive footplate (paying attention to readings and making adjustments etc.).
  2. Lovely stuff, 161 was a failry early 141 class casualty... anyone remember why?
  3. Following our diesel railtour to Kerry on the Saturday, on Sunday 21st August we have organised a special outing to the Cavan and Leitrim Railway at Dromod. This will include some special workings involving their beautifully restored Avonside steam locomotive "Nancy" and former Bord na Móna diesel No.LM114 "Joe St Ledger". Normally there is only one loco used at Dromod on a running day so this a rare chance to get two. Travel to and from Dromod will be by Iarnród Éireann service train, with an afternoon departure from Dublin allowing participants a chance of a lie-in after the previous day's trip. For those wishing to travel on both tours and make a weekend of it, a special combo rate ticket is available, at €120 all-in this is incredible value for a two day railtour; indeed it's less than that charged for many one day railtours in Great Britain. https://www.tailtetours.com/events/the-wild-rose-railtour
  4. I think one of the Tom Ferris 'Irish Railways in Colour' books has a picture of the mogul itself in front of the S Class. Interesting that the mogul tender is actually in green livery but you'd never tell at a casual glance!
  5. The latest article on our Táilte blog might be of interest to modellers, we *think* we've covered every livery variation the 201s have carried in service. (That said there were variants within the original Enterprise scheme, but that would take up an article in itself!). https://www.tailtetours.com/post/the-201-class-the-irish-gm-fleet-with-more-than-meets-the-eye
  6. I travelled that route before the pandemic, some stunning coastal views at some points.
  7. ZOOM SHOW WEDNEDSAY 15TH JUNE Zoom code is 304 026 3673 or you can log on to a Zoom Meeting via https://us02web.zoom.us/j/3040263673 Tomorrow (Weds 15th June), in a special addition to our regular monthly Zooms, we are delighted to have a representative from the Waterford and Suir Valley Railway, Maria Kyte their General Manager, to tell us about their history, their operations and their plans into the summer and beyond. As always, we are on from 8PM, and everyone is welcome. Plus we’ll have a round up of some of the news from around the network and further afield.
  8. Always thought this would make an intriguing compact little layout, plenty of potential for single 121s running bonnet first etc.
  9. On May’s Zoom Tuesday 31st Irish Railways, Present, Past and Other Interesting Railways are delighted to have Tom Ryan as our guest. Recently retired, the much loved Son of the Lee will be talking about his career on the railway, his life and times and how he prefers his mug of tae. Plus we’ll have a round up of some of the news from around the network and further afield. The Zoom code is 304 026 3673 or you can log on to a Zoom Meeting via https://us02web.zoom.us/j/3040263673 All are very very welcome!
  10. Did they not run through to Dugort in an alternate timeline?
  11. I just use them in Tesco allowing me to use my shopping budget on nicer things...
  12. It would be remiss of me not to mention our latest sponsor... you might have heard of them. Big thanks to the IRM team... and please don't plague them with questions about when the mkIV models are coming out...
  13. Indeed, the hospitality sector in general has been affected like this. I deal with a few hotels in work and there's been a sudden spike in recruitment drives.
  14. We've had some queries asking if we'd do a Kildare pickup/set down. It's something we're enquiring with IÉ about, but we wanted to get a gauge as to whether many would be interested in joining the tour there? As a guestimate, you'd be looking at around the 10:30/40 mark and then back sometime after 21:00. The fare would be the same as ex-Dublin/Portlaoise.
  15. Sometimes associated with being 'studentey' but well worth doing. I did one in early 2020 (just before, well, 'it' happened) and was a great way to spend a few weeks exploring at my leisure. Wasn't meant as a gricing trip per se but got in plenty of nice electrics and some GMs in Norway.
  16. Particularly like 071's name... now if we could have a Dublin South Eastern, Midland Great Western, Cork Bandon & South Coast...
  17. Perchance an alternate timeline where a Woolwich was saved instead, now there's a dream...
  18. Great for colab work too... I do a bit of content writing work and it's ideal for multi-person edits, comments etc.
  19. This article here takes a look at the Irish heritage railway groups we're hoping to support with the tour... https://www.tailtetours.com/post/irish-railway-preservation-groups-our-railtour-is-supporting
  20. Didn't 184 operate in a Pseudo GSWR(?) lined green in the 1950s, I think to do with some event in Inchicore but someone will know for sure. (Kinda like how 071 is in 'retro' CIE orange at the moment).
  21. And some got to West Cork too, which won't help @Westcorkrailway's pending debt problem...
  22. I think 4? No.9 is in Howth Transport Museum and I think there's one in Cultra...
  23. New build 178 is half way there so.

    KMCE's Workbench

Really quite excellent stuff! Shepherd and Beesley's volume on the DSER was one of the first railway books I was given and it's great seeing all these tank engine shapes realised in model form.
