Nice work Kieran, the colouring looks spot on.The roof vents on the MEDs and subsequently the converted parcel vans were the flat type,I have a feeling that is what JHB is meaning.Personally,I think the vents look fine on your model,I intend to get a set of the Worsley Works etches myself soon and would use the same donor coach as you did and thus I would not alter the roof vents either. The corridor connectors on the parcel vans were removed by NIR and plated over, your model would look closer to the original if you omitted the connectors.

Layout looking as good as ever Noel, hope you have a good time over Christmas. You thinking about doing the Glasgow show in Feb?

If there is no layout up and running in 2014 with that little lot and all the other stuff you have I will be very disappointed Seamus, get the finger out and get some track laying done.Sorry if this is off topic. -
Best wishes with the interviews, glad to see you back in the land of the living, although as scahalane has pointed out,it may be short lived!

Nelson-no,lorries would never be on the platform at Great Victoria Street, the lorry was only there as I took a photo of it from a side on angle to send to a friend. The lorry is an NIR Rail Express Parcels lorry that I have converted, which was used to transport goods from the boat train that arrived at York Road up to Great Victoria Street for onward shipment.I dont think it would have been much of an express service as it was hand-balled on to the train at Larne,hand-balled of at York Road to the truck,hand-balled onto a train at GVSt and hand-balled off at the final destinations. Then again, most jobs in the 70s were labour intensive.

HaHa,if only Seamus.Just looking forward to a couple of weeks off from the building industry, fed up being up to my knees in muck every day:SORRY:

Thanks guys for your posts, now back again in time for a photo I meant to post a while ago.The photo is the start of the next phase of the station build, showing the 2 island platform canopies, still in the build process, in what was their common appearance in the 70s with the glass blown out.Because the canopies were well done each platform and most passengers never walked as far as them, the glass was never usually repaired, but the glaziers are ready for work once the canopy build has been completed!Work on the station will end now for the holidays coming up,with the weedkiller train,a couple of AEC railcars and a long overdue C class all in the pipeline to be worked on over the festive period-hopefully!

Nice video again Kieran, good to see the MAK getting a run out, have you converted it to dcc now or can you operate dc on your layout?

Pete Waterman sells his 7mm stuff under the banner of 'Just like the real thing',your photographs of your layout actually are just like the real thing.Fantastic modelling, well done -
Good to see a bit of progress on the layout again Stephen, the yard area is looking great.
-
Superb work again Kieran, your layout is fantastic and one any of us would be proud of.Favourite photo shot, strangely for me is the McCulla truck entering the level crossing from behind the trees, with the different foliage colouring of the trees and the bright colouring of the truck along with the partly hidden houses and the ballasting and track looking great in front of it all, just pure magic

Stunning modelling, your work and eye for detail are a credit to you, just sheer brilliant -
Hi mlee2808,price is too steep for me I'm afraid, best wishes with the sale.
-
What price do you have in mind as I might be interested,I think a price has to be quoted on anything being sold
-
Ivor, the finished 80 class is just stunning, perfectly captured, well done. Nelson-good you are getting footage of the last 80 classes, hopefully one set will be preserved for the future unlike all the other railcar sets I grew up with,AECs,BUTs,MEDs,MPDs and 70s,none of which survived.

First and foremost, that is one of the best builds of a Q kits A class I have ever seen, well done.I too have a Q kits A class done as A20r,only wish she was half as good as yours! With regards the livery,as pointed out the white band is too thick but that is easily overcome.Silver kicker plates below the doors were also a feature of this engine, again easily done. When re-engined,A20r was repainted with dipped orange band, along with most of the rest of the class, but as josefstadt has pointed out some members of the class had the full orange band.At the time of re-enginning,some members of the class were already painted with the full orange band, others were still in the all black livery. There does not appear to be any rhyme or reason for either variant, maybe as josefstadt suggests the dipped version was adopted from 1970 onwards, those done prior were left as they had originally been done,or were those already painted with the full orange band did they just have the r prefix added to their original number, while all black versions repainted with the dipped orange version.I think this is an interesting subject, because I also encountered the same problem when building my B101 Sulzer, again with research, some versions had the full orange band while the version that I modelled had the dipped version,so it is always a good idea to get as much info on your subject model and period as you can.

And at £215 for the pleasure of a 3 car set,the mind boggles.

Layouts coming on great Kieran, like the centre area ballasting. It is hard to tell from a photo, but I would agree, the concrete area looks too light.I used Precision paints concrete paint on the platform area on GVSt and found it quite realistic looking, might be worth getting a couple of tinlets of it.
-
Great video Noel that really showcases your layout.Must be great setting 4trains running on the main lines and then doing a bit of shunting in the sidings,a real hussle bussle of a busy station area.Tara Junction,a real railway in miniture. The fertiliser wagons look great also.

Many thanks for your comments Kieran,Noel and Seamus, glad you are enjoying the thread. The following photo has been taken 10 years after the previous photo and shows the changing face on NIR.Brand new NIR 111 class loco Great Northern is seen powering towards Dublin with the Enterprise, while an NIR 80 class driving trailer, now 7 years old is heading towards Belfast, passing a CIE 141 class shunting container wagons in the head shunt.Fertilizer and bubbles in the yard complete the more up to date scene. The new excellent NIR 111 in original livery produced by Murphy Models was a great excuse for me digging out some of my 80s stock, which has been boxed since embarking on the GVSt station project.

That would be a picture to behold,I would really love a glimpse of that.I have seen green and blue/cream and maroon/grey and blue/cream in formations together, but never all 3 in the one formation.Iwould reckon the photo is from around 1967/68,as that was when the maroon/grey livery first appeared, the blue/cream appearing around 1965. With regards the 70 class, you are right,I would doubt if a single power car could perform such a task.Maybe a 3 car set that was strengthened by a power car and driving trailer marshalled the wrong way round, who knows!! -
Glad to see you are making a bit of progress 201bhoy,the photo's give a good idea of what is to come, well done. With regard concreting the freight yard, check out Kirley's latest work on his thread,I am sure he will be able tell you how that has turned out.
