  1. Stunning progress in a year Kirley, you have a layout to be proud off.Keep up the good work
  2. Still hitting the usual high standards at Tara Junction, the ballast wagons look at home behind the new liveried 071,a real up to the minute scene.
  3. Looking good,I really like the decayed urban scene,a very common site from the last 40 odd years but very seldom modelled.Good to see an update from the layout again
  4. The CIE loco crew done all their own shunting at Adelaide.NIR did usually have a Hunslet available at the yard for pilot duties that would have had an NIR crew member available for pilot duties, but this was very rarely put into practice.
  5. Kirley, like you,I have drew a blank with my reference material also, although the wheelbase for all the oil tankers appears to be 12'.The oil tankers you are doing look similar to the old Burmah tanks and given the donor chassis recommended for use, this chassis is for a 12'wheelbase,20 ton British tank wagon, then with the work that you have done with the tank ends being close to either end of the chassis,it looks correct to me.Good job with the tanks, they look the part and look right and I certainly do not see the need to do any modification to them.Well done
  6. The CIE AEC railcars would also venture north with a couple of 4 wheel heating vans in tow carrying mail to Portadown, with NIRs AEC railcars then taking the said vans to Belfast. NIR tended to use their railcars as mini locomotives as they were regularly used to convey freight, particularly the MPDs that would take the Derry goods from the CIE loco at the changeover point at Lisburn and also freight and parcels to Larne harbour.
  7. Try B.W.Models,they do a large range of 1:76 model kits with some different types of Bedford TMs that might suit your needs.
  8. Well guys,a year on,lets update this future projects/wish list with what we are still yearning for. I would still love to see bubbles first and foremost, but a pucker A and C class would really be top of the list.
  9. Thanks for the comments guys. You are right Heirflick, the livery on the early NIR railcars really suits them. The Oxford Blue and Cream livery from their GNR days was also very smart, when I next get round to doing my next set I will probably paint one of the coaches in this colour for a bit of variety,as there was evidence of this livery still being in use in the early 70s. Kirley-I will see about starting a workbench thread on my next build of AECs and BUTs.Before them,an MPD railcar set will be done,I could include that in a future thread also.I am currently working on my early 70s CIE weedkiller train, which is vying with the actual GVSt build at the moment for the time available, everyday life really does get in the way of modelling
  10. Nice video and sound of the Sulzer Kirley,it is looking good,as is the layout.Nice Galway rake also.
  11. Great shots ttc0169,the 071s look right at home on Tara Junction.Like the ballasting in the first photo,it sets the tracks off well.
  12. That's what made these railcars sets so unique, the variety of stock that could turn up.The UTAs MPDs were classic as they almost all were different from each other!!
  13. Lovely looking signal cabin, quite unique, some great workmanship to achieve the finished result, well done
  14. Having got back into doing some work on Great Victoria Street station with the ballasting over the weekend,it was necessary to test everything was still working having been soaked with pva/water.Below are a few more photo's that hopefully recapture a feel of scenes from the 70s on NIR. The above photo shows the DH shunter removing a couple of brown vans from the rear of a recently arrived AEC railcar set to platform 4.A BUT set is resting in platform 3 while Hunslet 101 Eagle is in platform 2 waiting to depart to the sheds having arrived with the Enterprise earlier. The coaches from the Enterprise have already been removed to the carriage sidings. An MED railcar is in platform 1 waiting to depart with an all stations to Lisburn service. The above photo is a closer view of the difference between the AEC and BUT sets. The AEC set has still to be completed and once complete, another AEC and BUT sets are to be started. The above photo is taken from the other side of the layout and shows the Hunslet making its way to the sheds with the MED ready to follow with its train to Lisburn.
  15. Nice pics of some great looking layouts and rolling stock, thanks for sharing
  16. Have actually done some work on the layout for the first time in months, one of the problems of a loft layout in winter.I have eventually got round to ballasting the station area with a mixture of grey and brown ballast that was then dry brushed with ground down charcoal.I also weathered the platform surfaces with the charcoal to give them that well used look.Great Victoria Street in the 70s towards the end of its life was a murky place, especially the ballast and sleepers that were particularly covered in grime.Below are a couple of photo's of the progress so far,the whole area still has the be soaked with a pva/water solution to finish it off
  17. Great shots, the baby GMs look great,as do the 071s,the whole setting looks brilliant
  18. Both NIR (UTA)and CIE split the GNR AEC railcars in half at the demise of the GNR in 1958,both receiving 10 cars each. All of NIRs AEC railcars were withdrawn by 1973,2 of which were bought by CIE for parts.2were converted to parcels cars and the other 6 were scrapped.I think the only AEC railcars that might have went to Crosshill quarry were the 2 that had been converted to parcels traffic. All of the 70 class railcars went to Crosshill along with some MPDs,MEDs and the last of the BUTs which had been converted to hauled coaching stock. The asbestos was used in the lagging of the coaches
  19. Congratulations to you and your family at this special time
  20. That is one superb looking girder bridge, stunning detail and attention to detail and workmanship, just brilliant
  21. Nice work on the Hunslet Kirley,it looks the part.Certainly captures the feel of the best ever diesel loco to grace our shores.
  22. Hunslet 102

    New Arrival

Congratulations to you and your family Stephen at this wonderful and precious time.
  23. Another great looking B101 class running on a class looking layout, love the mix of black and white and colour photo's,with the black and white ones adding to the realism of the era modelled, well done
  24. Looking great as usual ttc0169,your layout is up to its usual high standards with both stock and the real life hussle and bussle of a busy main line station and works
