It's behind a pub called the Old New Inn. A distant relative, who was a cop in Harlem, New York came over to visit us - it was like one of those comedy films when people go to places they just don't understand. I had to shepherd him around the place and I remember, me being about eight years old, trying to keep an eye on a twenty stone New York cop. We were in the pub when someone jokingly asked him if the bulge in his jacket was a gun and he just produced a loaded .38 snub-nosed revolver and handed it to the bloke. This was before hijackings and airport security - he just put his gun on every day like his watch...

It is well worth a look, if you're going past. The whole place is OK, too - plenty to see (on a nice day).

There has been some discussion on here about aspects of layout and model photography. It might be an idea to exchange information about the subject. For many years, my only digital camera was a Nikon Coolpix S4. I didn't really realise how useful it was, especially for recording exhibition layouts, until it failed on me. I got it largely for the 10X optical zoom, which was unusual in those far-off days. This meant that it has a swivelling lens assembly, for practical purposes, due to the size of the zoom assembly, and this makes it very useful for "arm's length" pictures, as the screen can be seen from odd angles, as well. My original one eventually failed, and I used a DSLR solely for a while, this was much less useful for use at exhibitions and I finally found a replacement on eBay. The lens can be swung through 270 degrees (backwards, upwards, forwards, downwards and anywhere in between) and is therefore also handy in the 'real' world for taking pictures over walls, fences, crowds of people, other obstructions, etc, in the manner of a periscope. It is also a genuine 'pocket' camera, for when a DSLR is too bulky. There is a (rather delicate) hinged plastic lens cap that is not shown on that picture above. The DSLR is an old Nikon D3000, which seems quite OK to me and is more controllable, if you feel like taking control. Just rather awkward to use in model railway situations, I find. Obviously, I'm not going to get drawn into the whole "how to make sure all your pictures are the right way up" scenario. Now that we seem to have the uploading issues resolved, it might be worth exchanging experiences of different equipment and techniques.

I was going to post these pictures of a West Coast Main Line bridge that I took having a wander about after the Haywood Exhibition, with a comment along the lines of "It's only likely to be hit by the odd mountain bike - or, maybe, a pushchair in the drier weather". Although, it does look substantial enough to survive either of those.

Mmm, I retract some of my approval for the new photo uploading arrangements. It works perfectly for the "ladies" camera that I keep in the car and use for closer access at exhibitions, but not for the "proper" camera that I used to take some pictures of the West Coast Main Line that runs a couple of hundred yards away from the venue. I presume that size is the issue, though the error message just calls it a 'problem'. I could resize them, I suppose - what is the actual limit, though? I could use the existing Imgur link, as I have elsewhere, but that's https and doesn't work, either. It took me a while to realise that I had used a different camera outside. For reference, about 1M works and about 4M doesn't (for me).

Not sure when that changed, there was a rearrangement about a year ago. They still appear everywhere else that I use them.

I'll ask them, but everything was done with the same 'public' settings.

'17 missing pics, but there in '16..? Odd, but not the end of the world.

I saw that they had been moved manually - they should all have the same settings - oddly, the Stafford exhibition ones are partly there - 2017 is all missing, but 2016 is all there - odd. Maybe it's just a time issue? What I see when I look is just the 'tail' of the link the (number).jpg, but not the start.

Mmm, well, the Haywood ones are there now, but the ones in here are still missing - there could well be others elsewhere, too.
