The lighting is superb, real life inner-city action in the dead of night
-
David, since you are an expert on presentation, can I ask you if 'creating a window' to the front of a layout with lighting behind the front helmet works, if the sides are going to be either perspex enclosed or open to view.
-
My next steps are the finer detail.... nameboards, signal, water crane, loading gauge and passengers. This will complete the model /diorama and let me focus on the outer fascia and display 'window'. Would the goods store building benefit from some interior lighting coming through the perspex roof lights?

Nothing pleases me more than following the detail and progress Warb. A layout that must be seen

A platform was added some time during its history and the arch built up. I think it also added to the security of goods at night. Behind the arch a platform ran right up to a small door entrance to the store. Inside, the store was 'planked' to platform height to allow easy unloading of wagons.

Nice, hope he enjoyed it! Thanks David and John, as you know this layout was binned several times but I knew that I would get there eventually.
-
Thanks Patrick and Jonathan. I need to replace the backscene with a one piece roll I bought, fix my trees in position and start thinking about finishing the fascia and fitting some perspex protection in place.

What a lovely piece of film and equally enchanting layout.well done David

When modelling the tank for Omagh I was well aware of the curved corners but decided against trying to replicate the tank exactly. If I knew of an easy way of doing it, I'd replace my current one thanks
-
I remember lads telling me that they used to hide inside the tank in Omagh all day when they were supposed to be in school. This was in the early 1970s, after closure of course.

Robert, your picture is full of great colour detail Eoin, your sketch is very good and worth exploring Dave, i'll deal with you next time we meet!

Progress on water tower build.... Can anyone suggest what type of detailing would be required inside the actual tank? Since it will be within the viewers eye, I need to detail it with something. Any ideas?

Lovely stuff Patrick. The ballasting and tracwork are so realistic and they are set against a simple but very effective backdrop of rural Ireland, well done

Ken, Thanks for your comment. The crossing vee was actually removed from the junction of the Bundoran line when it was closed in 1957. It actually was left in storage outside the South Cabin but I thought it would add to the scene in the Goods Yard.

I have started work on the water tower, gents toilet and shunters hut that were situated on the north end of omagh. They were situated on the passenger platform with access to the goods yard. This will bring this project build to an end almost. All I need to do is prepare the fascia and surround to allow safe display.
-
Jonathan, I sort of did it in Omagh, not up to sleeper level but on the entire yard surface. I coated the baseboard with PVA and scattered fine ballast liberally all over. I then added various mounds of cinders and coal at varying height and fixed them with PVA, water, fairy liquid mix. When totally dry I rubbed modelling clay lightly over to show compressed areas where traffic was heavy. I then painted. See Omagh Goods Yard.

The following points are in their original Peco packaging. They were laid on a temporary layout but lifted after several weeks testing. They may have been pinned temporarily but never ballasted. They are totally functional. A few may have the manual point operating lugs removed where they touched track work but this is purely cosmetic, it doesn't hinder movement. They are all Peco Electrofrog Code 75 Streamline except ONE which is noted. Short Radius Points L/H Three - R/H Two Medium Radius R/H ONE Large Radius Y ONE Curved R/H ONE Long Crossing TWO (One electrofrog - ONE Insulfrog) Quick Sale - ALL for £60

David, points taken. I'll certainly look at the 'gap's between ground and buildings. I had deliberately kept them apart as I intended removing the buildings during transit, otherwise I would consider securing them with ground surface and grass/weeds. The Stephensons bread units are now weathered to kill the bright blue colour and the inglis set are next. Finally, your good friend Frank Kirkland is calling with me later this afternoon so he can report back to you on his visit to see the model. All the way from Derbyshire!

Robert, thank you for your offer, it is appreciated. I actually have a copy of the original scanned GNRi Crest which was used on RPSI locos. It's a huge file and will provide me with the presentation I need. Many thanks anyway.
