Hi all,

I was hoping someone could offer some advice. My Dad was an avid model railway builder and passed away a many years ago leaving behind a huge collection of model railway.

His collection includes: trains, carriages, engines, N gauge, gauge master controller all in boxes etc- the majority of which is in boxes/ new. Sadly, there is no one in the family who can take over the collection and we would like them to go to someone who will enjoy them like my Dad did. We would like to get a specialist/ someone with expertise to look at them and determine their value (if any).

Appreciate any advice you can offer.

As always, photographs make it much easier for any appraisal of goods like this

Hi Claire,

You've got a few choices, however having the items boxed is an advantage.

Due to Covid and manufacturing issues in China there is a dearth of N Gauge items in the shops so the second hand market is buoyant.

Were you to sell on Ebay you could expect the get close to new price, £30-40 per carriage, £100 - £120 for locos, higher if the item is particularly wanted, less for some smaller locos. I'm not sure what postage you would incur as most of the interest will probably be in mainland UK.

As you have the boxes you should be able provide detailed descriptions.

You could sell to a dealer but they will need their cut so expect a fair slug less, alternately a local enthusiast may be interested in a bulk buy.

Hope that helps?

Claire,

The box will have the product code on the end of the box, Google that code and you will see some price information on same

as you can see 374-151 went for €19.00 which give a good idea.

I you go through a dealer probably expect about 30% of the sell price.

The Prodigy for example can be seen on hattons
