Darius43 Posted December 20, 2025 Posted December 20, 2025 After a nearly two year hiatus, Middlemark V2.0 is under construction in a new, larger shed. The lower storage level to one side of the shed has been installed and the helix extracted from storage and fixed in position. We have taken the opportunity to improve things compared to the old shed. All levels are 3in higher up from the floor and the helix has been fixed away from the walls to enable a track to run behind it to feed the storage area. Cheers Darius 6 3
John-r Posted December 20, 2025 Posted December 20, 2025 Class looking, the helix really looks the part.
Darius43 Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 The first and smaller of the two lower level storage yards has been completed - well track laying has. The longest siding is 20ft and the shortest 8ft. Trial run with the new Bachmann 69. Cheers Darius 1 5
Mol_PMB Posted January 17 Posted January 17 And that's the SMALLER one? Wow. Room for all your MTK builds there, and the rest!
Darius43 Posted January 31 Author Posted January 31 Lower level baseboard construction moves to the other side of the shed. This will accommodate larger through storage sidings with a return loop connecting to the helix that links to the upper scenic levels. Cheers Darius 4 2
Darius43 Posted February 7 Author Posted February 7 (edited) Other side of shed (low level) baseboards completed. 3mm cork layer applied. Cheers Darius Edited February 7 by Darius43 5
Darius43 Posted March 28 Author Posted March 28 We reckon we have laid nearly 800ft of track so far - and that’s just the lower level storage. There will be a higher scenic level above this. Cheers Darius 1 1
Patrick Davey Posted March 28 Posted March 28 Gulp What is the era/inspiration for this project Darius?
Darius43 Posted March 28 Author Posted March 28 It’s a rebuild of a partially completed layout that was under construction a few years ago in a large shed belonging to a friend of mine. He subsequently moved house and built a new, slightly larger, shed - the interior of which is seen in the preceding photos. A double track helix in one corner will connect the lower storage siding level with an upper scenic level, which will itself have two levels. The location will be “somewhere in the southern UK” but the era will be “flexible…” We got quite far along with the original layout. Cheers Darius 4
