Popular Post The Derry Road Posted August 13 Popular Post Posted August 13 Hi everyone, just a quick note on the progress of a new layout I’m currently working on. Firstly a huge thank you to my son Stephen and nephew Chris who have built the base boards and assembled and erected the display cabinets, current and ongoing health issues mean I can only do some things . I will over the next few weeks/ months be laying the track which will have three circuits and incorporate as much of the bits and pieces from the old layout. The new layout is called “Lisneal Road”. I’m hoping if space permits a 10 track storage road. Overall size is 16ft x 6ft. DCC powered with one circuit switchable to DC running if required. Regards TDR 23

My nephew Chris is a self employed carpenter, I'm well pleased with the result, looking forward to getting cork glued down and then track sorted 2 hours ago, Flying Snail said: thats some nice looking benchwork and cabinets! 3
DJ Dangerous Posted August 16 Posted August 16 That’s an amazing space and the cabinets look sublime!
The Derry Road Posted August 19 Author Posted August 19 Hi All, Quick update, I’ve started the track work on the fiddle yard first, mainly to test if I could get ten storage roads and it works. All the track is Peco streamline OO gauge with the points being at least medium radius and electrofrog. The storage roads are numbered 1-10 from the wall outwards, 1 and 2 are 11ft long and will be doubled powered with DC and DCC through double pole double throw (DPDT) switches, I still have quite a few DC powered locos waiting conversion to DCC. Roads 3-4are 8ft the remaining are 7ft so I can have some good scale length trains running. The roads have a distance of 15mm from sleeper edge to edge, I took inspiration form Everard Junction’s video, where he placed his at 12mm, and there is still room to get your fingers in between the rolling stock. So permanent fitting begins shortly with wiring and fixing each point in place, complete with Seep PM1 point motors. If anyone can add or give any constructive feed back/advice that would improve before I begin it would be most welcome. Thanking you all for your interest thus far. Regards Ray 13
DJ Dangerous Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Fabulous, just fabulous, and a great idea running both DC and DCC. 1
The Derry Road Posted yesterday at 18:20 Author Posted yesterday at 18:20 Hi everyone, quick update on the track lying thus far, 10 storage roads and some hard standing in place and most of the station and depot laid. Just waiting on installing the crossover, turntable and oil depot and finish off before starting the electrics. Also 12 storage drawers 48×20 inches each for stock fitted under. Some pictures so far. Mol_PMB Posted yesterday at 18:50 Posted yesterday at 18:50 That scissors with slip is a lovely piece of work. Is it custom-made from Peco bits? 1 1

Yes, It was made for me by a lad called Patrick Nicholls in England, he is on eBay as PC Recycler, and makes various different combinations and I believe takes commissions to suit your requirements if its possible. His standard is excellent and precise 1 2
Mol_PMB Posted yesterday at 19:22 Posted yesterday at 19:22 That may be the same guy one of my friends used for a couple of similar layouts. They are very nicely made and the trains run smoothly. But they can be a pain to wire up and switch frog polarity because (prototypically) all the crossings are close together and there’s a risk of momentary shorts as locos pass over. Probably worse on DCC. Hopefully yours will be fine, do some testing before sticking it down and ballasting. A few dots of nail varnish to lengthen the isolated sections can help. 2

west_clare_wanderer Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago (edited) You've got a lovely space there @The Derry Road, and have made a great start. I'm looking forward to seeing the layout develop and can't wait to see full length trains running! Keep up the good work 3 hours ago, DJ Dangerous said: Link to PC-Recycler on eBay: https://www.ebay.es/usr/pc-recycler There's some very impressive track formations on offer there! Was only thinking the same, though they appear to be dead frog ones, so that ought to make life easier
