Railer Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Don't know about 087 except that it was in the worst condition of all the 071s then it went in for overhaul almost 3 ago years now. At the time there was speculation that 077,078 and 087 would not be out again. Still waiting for 078's escape after 077. Reports are that 088 is sitting in Inchicore in slate grey livery. It was last reported working a timber train on 31/1/13, that was a quick turn around.071 took longer. Quote
Blaine Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Its under overhaul at the moment, taking their time with it though Quote
irishrail123 Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I believe a lot of locos area awaiting different parts so thats why its pretty slow in getting some of them out to the mainline. Quote
gm171 kk Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Wasn't the old "plan" for 087 to be sent to the grave yard and used for parts? I read somewhere that the orange 071s (077, 078, 084 and 087) were to be withdrawn and used for parts. It's a good thing that didn't happen. Quote
Ben Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) Do GM still provide parts?? The 071 class have the 645 Engine ,this engine is the precursor to the later 710 series found in the 201 class. First introduced in 1965, the EMD 645 series is still in production on a by-request basis. The EMD 645 engine series is currently supported by Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc.(cat), which purchased the assets of the Electro-Motive Division from General Motors in 2005. Too many things running around with 645s in them to this day not to. Parts for the 567 engine as found in 121s and 141s are still being made, and the 567 was first introduced in 1938! Quote
