gm171 kk Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I traveled to Kildare today to catch the IRRS special from Dublin Heuston to Cork as I heard that a pair of 071s would be double heading the cravens. Quote
Warbonnet Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I completely forgot about this! Balls anyway! Nice vid! Quote
gm171 kk Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 I completely forgot about this! Balls anyway! Nice vid! It's meant to arrive back in Heuston at 7:45 so you still have a chance of getting it. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 That's strange,I thought 071s were banned from double heading by IE?. Quote
gm171 kk Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 That's strange,I thought 071s were banned from doubleheading by IE?. It wasn't really double heading as 073 was dead. Quote

thewanderer Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 (edited) Evening all, Yesterday I spent the best place to be if you are interested in Irish Railways, onboard the excellent Irish Railway Records Society railtour to Cork, Cobh & Midleton. Locos used during the day were 071+073 and these were split at Cork to allow the Cobh and Midleton lines to be visited by a traditional train as no run round loops exist at these locations. Photos from the day are now online at Enjoy! The Wanderer. P.S. "Big Locos" i.e. 071 and 201 Class have only in the last few years been permitted by the Chief Civil Engineer to operate double headed without restriction over the Dublin - Cork and Dublin - Border Lines. This was the first planned use of a double headed 071. Sadly as the Multiple Working equipment on the 071's has never been used, the tempation to put a 27 pin jumper between the locos had to be resisted! Edited July 21, 2013 by thewanderer Quote
Glenderg Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 "Rumours that the Portarlington Stop in both directions was for The Wanderer was met with a blunt denial" Great photos as always and the history by Josefstadt. Thanks. R. Quote
josefstadt Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 A great record of a wonderful day out. Thanks to Shane Roberts and the IRRS for organising it, to all the IÉ staff for putting it together and operating the trains on the day and to the Wanderer, and others, for the pics and videos of it. Quote
