Seanw12 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 (edited) http://youtu.be/JE5uROE0q2Y. Any tips Edited December 2, 2013 by Seanw12
BosKonay Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Moved you over here Sean. Looks good, you've the start of some lovely stock - do you plan to set up a baseboard?
Seanw12 Posted December 2, 2013 Author Posted December 2, 2013 Where I have my trains there's a spiral stairs so I can't get wood up a spiral stairs so is ther anything I can use
jhb171achill Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Possibly have it running on a shelf-like layout around the walls of wherever you have your collection? That way you could make it out out of narrower boards end to end rather than a large rectangular baseboard... maybe that would do?
David Holman Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Consider doing an open frame type of baseboard Sean. That way you are only taking strip wood and narrow strips of materials up the spiral stairs, rather than large sheets. Check out Iain Rice's book Finescal in Small Spaces for ideas - there is a wealth of good stuff there. Alternatively browse the magazine racks [no need to buy them all!] as bound to be some tips there too re layout/baseboard design.
Seanw12 Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Should of said this at the start my layout is in my room and there no other room in the house to put them
aclass007 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I noticed the headlights are switched on, on both ends of the loco... Is this a programming error?
UP6936 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Lights for a loco, prototypically, would be just front head and ditch lights when running with load, or head lights, ditch lights, and rear red markers when running light.
Sulzer201 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 http://youtu.be/JE5uROE0q2Y. Any tips Sean it's a great looking start to a model railway and lovely smooth running with the 201 and carriages. You can add on more track, scenery etc as time, finances and space allow. On the latter, you could consider the services of baseboard Dave who can work wonders in creating double and triple deck running space for your trains. Well done.
201bhoy Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Lights for a loco, prototypically, would be just front head and ditch lights when running with load, or head lights, ditch lights, and rear red markers when running light. Actually, I remember the 111s frequently running with red lights even when they were pulling the gatwicks! Any reason for this?
irishthump Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I noticed the headlights are switched on, on both ends of the loco... Is this a programming error? This is down to the decoder being used. Using a four function decoder results in the headlights staying on one end of the loco.
Seanw12 Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 I can turn on any lights I want or turn any off
irishthump Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 But you shouldn't have headlights on at both ends of the loco. What decoder do you have in the loco?
UP6936 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 You probably should... Looks odd having them at both ends
irishthump Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 The headlights should only be on in the direction of travel. I have a 201 with a Hornby Sapphire decoder and the lights behave the same way. You need a decoder with 6 functions to be able to control all the lights independently.
Seanw12 Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 I can control all the lights and I know they only have the lights on the direction there going I just had all them on then
irishthump Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I can control all the lights and I know they only have the lights on the direction there going I just had all them on then Then you must be using the Murphy Models decoder.
Garfield Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 What Sean is saying is that he had all the lights on at the same time because he felt like it. He's already said there's nothing wrong with the decoder.

He's already said there's nothing wrong with the decoder. I was just curious as to which decoder he was using. The headlights are directional, you shouldn't be able to turn on both ends at once!
