Kirley
While doing some research with Barry of Cambrian Models he mentioned the GSWR ballast hopper at Downpatrick stating it appears to be pretty much identical to the GWR P22 hopper that he is about to add to his range. One difference he pointed out was the pictured one is riveted though, and the GWR one was welded. So not one for the rivet counters then... Dunluce Castle
Excellent Kirely, thanks for the heads up I can't wait to get round to buying one, any chance of proper Irish wagons being produced?

Glenderg
They will make nice little addition to anybody's layout. Anybody know of the hoppers that are pulled by NIR GM's they really would look the part behind 8112 8113 There are FIVE threads on this forum titled "NIR Ballast Wagon" or variants where you'll find the answer. Liverbird81
I have found some but none relate to the info I need which is, what would be a good donor wagon for the current rake that NIR GM,s pull
Glenderg
Glenderg can't find these posts you are pointing me to Like this thread? which you started? http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/2301-Nir-ballast-wagons?highlight=nir+ballast Anyway, as I said in that thread also, the 42' flat works as a basis for the wagon, and you would have to scratchbuild the hopper. UP6936
If you're just looking for a simple resprays job, you'd be better going with the older type (walrus), than faffing about trying to get something like the new ones.
Garfield
Limited edition SNCF bogie ballast wagons were produced by French manufacturer Mistral a few years ago. They bear a close resemblance to the current NIR ballast wagons. However, the models only appear on eBay, etc. very rarely and prices go through the roof. http://www.boutiquedutrain.fr/images/mistral/mst-27-01-B007-face1.JPG

DiveController
They are HO is there much of a difference in size I don't know about these wagons, but I had the misfortune of purchasing some Lima HO coaches on eBay advertised as OO. They're noticeably different, by my calculations maybe 30% change in volume or more depending on how you look at the math. Basically they'd be about 14% smaller in each dimension (cubed)…. but the eye can be deceived in many things…….
