Riversuir226
Got myself a nice little bargain this morning, original mir brass sides. Problem is they re painted(badly), bit rough as they were previously attached to a coach and ideas on how to sort them out?

Riversuir226
Brake Fluid bath? I suppose i asked for that , my mistake it was more sorting out the brass itself than the paint. the bottles are to hold them down as otherwise it rolls up. David
A bath in cellulose thinners will remove all but the metal in an hour or so. As for the brass, only solution is careful bending back to shape by hand. Careful not to make it look like the raffle car from father ted! Weshty
I wouldn't start from where you are to be frank. Ouch! If I thought there was demand for them, I'd consider doing etched restaurant sides. Comments on a postcard please Box1057 Late Late Show....... RedRich
Whoever had it really butchered it. If you manage to completely remove the paint you could try and anneal the brass to soften it and see if it can be made reusable. There will be huge brownie points up for grabs if you pull it off. I've not seen an MIR EGV or Restaurant kit as it comes, are they pre rolled. I am all for encouraging people to have a try, however practice before tackling it otherwise more often than not the sides as you received them will be the result. Warbonnet
According to the extensive research I just did by opening my own kit they are not pre rolled
Weshty
lovely clean brass sides there....and a tasty J26! Oh, if I DO do them, they will come pre rolled.....just like the SSM MK3 and MK2 EGV sides.

My MK3 SSM EVG brass Sides are still stuck on some 5 years after the build.I got good advice as regards glueing them on.
