Broithe Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 May be some photo opportunities with this. https://railtoursireland.com/railcruiseandcastletour Quote
hurricanemk1c Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Same tour as last year and the year before as far as I know - definately a good photo op! Quote
Noel Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 For that kind of price one might expect more 'Pullman' style coach interior comfort instead of modest refurbished craven interiors. (i.e. €10k for a couple on an 8 day break = €1250 per day). It costs less to stay full board in top 5 star hotel for over a month. Belmond Grand Hibernian is nearly twice the price but seems in a different league for a 'first class' service. Quote
jhb171achill Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 The big difference is that the EIE lot are put up in 5 star luxury hotels and castles, and have more varied tours, rather than sleeping in a siding! ;-) Quote

The GH is more like the cruise ship travel experience - unpack once but visit many different places. For €10k though couples may expect a 5-star coach experience more like the GH specs. Quote
leslie10646 Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Steam Dreams Emerald Isle "Emerald Isle Explorer" at least gives you steam haulage, for a bit less? Quote
Warbonnet Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Steam Dreams Emerald Isle "Emerald Isle Explorer" at least gives you steam haulage' date=' for a bit less?[/quote'] Usually 071 hauled. Though I'd say it would be a big selling point to stick Merlin on it for one of the legs if it were possible... Quote
UP6936 Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 I think there's some confusion going on here. The Steam Dreams operation, the "Emerald Isle Explorer" is indeed kettle haulage, but the rail tours Ireland "Emerald Isle Express" is 071 hauled. Both have cravens stock. At least that's my understanding of the matter! Quote

Broithe Posted April 30, 2016 Author Posted April 30, 2016 Forty shades of green, and at least two shades of emerald. Quote
