While it may not be for everyone some dental tools are a handy addition to any modellers tool box and they have the benefit of being reasonable cheap.

 

Here I used one on a Provincial Wagon CIE Skeleton wagon kit which had a considerable amount of flashing to remove.

Great suggestion - I have quite a selection and find them very useful for many things - they can be easily modified for a specialist situation, too. The "modeller's picks" are not made from such hard material as the genuine dental picks. This can be to your advantage, if you do want to alter them a bit.

 

I would suggest that, if you have the option, the single-ended picks are a little easier, and safer, to use.

I did buy this for 10p at a boot sale years ago, largely because I liked the look of the handle and thought it might be useful for something else - but, it has turned out to be in regular use for all sorts of things.

 

 

Just two pieces of shaped and polished steel, probably nails, I suspect, they are very handy for hoicking things out of holes, removing o-rings, clearing the washing machine filter and a host of other tasks.

I first came across UV-hardening adhesives at the hands of a dentist.

 

Very useful stuff, you have almost unlimited time to place things correctly - then you just shine the lamp on the join and all is done, virtually instantly.

I first came across moulding equipment at the hands of a dentist when I was about 9

 

Remember the green goo they used to take an impression of your teeth- I got some and made a mould for casting fishing spinners in lead- worked really well and caught loads of fish

It was the plants that got me in that movie- classics Steve Martin though, though we're straying away from dentistry tools...
