Midlander Outing - March 2024
Galteemore replied to Rush and Lusk's topic in What's happening on the network?
Yes, Skerries loop, R&L. Very nice runs; Dublin-Drogheda-Dundalk-Skerries-Drogheda-Dublin. Agreed, great to see RPSI trains so well supported. . -

Easter Bunny trains for me today, back home from GB for a bit and doing some RPSI fundraising! Absolutely stellar running from 131 and her crew. 171 will have a hard job to beat her…and nice to see both @airfixfanand @jhb171achillin the flesh again…..after thirty years in the latter’s case. I may have taken the chance to take the odd detail pic…. -
It’s an OO works CBSCR loco. Now out of production. https://www.ooworks.co.uk/reviews

Yes, but 90 was designed for passenger work from day 1. 3BG is designed to move loose coupled trucks slowly over small distances…..

Now that’s very nice. And very useful views of the Poppy jig. I have one for a few projects which will involve 1/8 axles but not used it yet. Good tip re biro spring….. -
Absolutely. For years afterwards, Dublin wags would go to the ticket office in Harcourt St and ask for ‘a single to Hatch St’……

No expert, but guard iron (normally vertical in front of wheel to sweep debris off track)circled in green. Sandpipe (to put sand on wet rails) in blue

I think the guard irons and sandpipes might disagree!

Brookhall Mill - A GNR(I) Micro Layout

Delightful afternoon with @Patrick Daveyand @Tullygraineyenjoying some splendid modelling and Craic. Great to meet them both in person and talk modelling. -
Many hurdles…main line safety gear, coal and water capacity, air brakes, limited speed. 3BG has done railtours before, but very different era and standards ! Joe Cassells pic from RPSI site
-
IIRC York Road station also had them. One of the last duties of the WT class was the annual test of the hydraulics - presumably by allowing the Jeep to push against them.

Because paint hides all the bodges, scratches and filler….obviously not in the case of Tullygrainey’s Faberge work….. -
Sounds good Alan. No 6 in either incarnation would be delightful. As for me, I am returning to a long-stalled project to build an ex-GNRI 4-4-0, a J class….now on its second attempt at a chassis…..bottom pic shows attempt 1, before I managed to find a Beyer Peacock GA. Top pic shows bogie almost ready to roll.

Get you re valve gear Alan. Thank goodness the SLNC never bothered with such twentieth century monstrosities. What about No6 or 16 next? Know what you mean about that gene too- I am planning out a 10thou footplate right now…,

These are fabulous. Given the cost of a colour photo in the 50s, unsurprising that few people took such views - better to spend the money on 3/4 loco shots! So glad he did though - gives a real insight into what it was like to travel on the Irish NG. Thanks Leslie - I’d just never seen one at Clones before. -

Eggs-cellent work…. -
He’s been in touch to offer me a discount, which I declined. ….

If it’s any consolation he can’t tell a 9F from a Britannia either!
-
That’s truly awful. It’s not even geranium red!!

Northern Ireland Railways / Irish Rail Models (OO Gauge)
Galteemore replied to IrishTrainScenes's topic in Irish Models
For NIR, try Silver Fox Models. Basic but solid models. Also try @WRENNEIRE here, who is a pretty good guide to what may be available second hand (thinking here of a Murphy 111), and what should be paid for it. Watch eBay too. Occasionally things pop up. -

So sorry to miss this —arriving one day too late! -
Lanyon Place to Dublin is 113 miles 46 chains. Dundalk is 54 miles 30 chains from Dublin. So something in region of 59 miles plus. I’ll let you have fun of doing the precise maths. 80 chains per mile btw.
