    That’s hilarious. I’m sitting about 5 minutes away from that very route right now! Although LT have now surrendered to Arriva in these parts, the route was, I think, originally a feeder to the Met line at Chesham.

    Excellent David. Most useful tutorial which will hopefully encourage others to have a go! It’s a great little kit and an ideal intro to Irish 7mm.

    That was only used for transferring wagons via rope haulage and turntables afaik, rather than being a proper loco-worked line.

    Wonderful. Once you get a rolling chassis, the rest is comparatively straightforward

    Great stuff as ever. Agree with Alan / there is a real overall sense of cohesion to the composition. Many layouts have an excellent set of individual items on show which just don’t ‘gel’. There’s a consistent picture here which adds so much atmosphere. Must have a think about how to do my signal box….,

    What a gift your archive is Ernie. Looks like the 7:20 will be steam tonight - look at coach behind the railbus. Also worth noting SLNC yard trackage here is chaired and not flat bottom as on their ‘main line’. The UTA wagons are an interesting contrast. First one looks like an old NCC pattern with outside W irons (and NCC section station in background). Lower one, is I think one of the Courtaulds factory coal wagons - the photo is possibly taken at their Carrickfergus sidings.

    I understand that such systems overseas adopt the early railway practice of timed interval departures. Perhaps morning departures in one direction and afternoon departures in the other? Staff and ticket would be more fun…..

    The ‘Irish North’ - Dundalk to Enniskillen. Although technically the Irish North ran all the way to Derry. The ‘Back Line’ - Greenisland-Monkstown

    Cracking footage here of Larne line mails in 1976. Ignore the 450 class used as an opener!!

    Only a few years until the WTs finally vanished in 1970-71 (last locos were steamed in 1970 but a handful of the class remained hanging about until mid 71 before scrapping). Lough Erne was technically an NIR loco at time of withdrawal but was never branded with the ‘stapler’ logo.

    Friend of mine took this vid at Balmoral. Of note is elderly gent at right. First chairman of the RPSI in 1964 and can actually remember the GNR before blue engines came in!!! IMG_7710.MOV

    A few kicked around York Road for years IIRC. At the time they were all scrapped the RPSI was rightfully focused on getting enough steam locos and coaches in service to run trains. Wagon preservation in Ireland has been very hit or miss - most glaring omission being a cattle wagon. The spoil wagons wouldn’t really earn their keep as ballast wagons on an heritage line either, as they were designed for the specific task of dumping stones beside the railway and not on it!

    Grey Fergies even graced the SLNC……although this isn’t the best place to pose for a photo…..

    IIRC Larne Line resignalling c1984 killed all that off. The old searchlights and somersaults all went along with the signal cabins.

    I’m intrigued to know what a ‘family stowage area’ is….some sort of cage for holding parents and kids ?

    Agreed, brilliant desert stuff. Came across a brilliant quote by Churchill on Ludwig von Thoma recently, relating to his capture and subsequent hospitality with the 8th Army ….. Churchill remarked: "I sympathize with General von Thoma: Defeated, in captivity and... (long pause for dramatic effect) dinner with Montgomery".[15]

    Letterkenny and Burtonport Extension Rlwy - a component of the Lough Swilly. Some graphic designer has clearly grabbed an image from somewhere and gone with it. Shame as it’s not the worst I have seen.
