  1. Yep, Thursdays are good for me.
  2. Cheers man, will you have the kettle on?
  3. Sounds too much like a Susan Boyle love making situation to me man, the horror! Sounds like a plan. Need to get up to Downpatrick one of these days too!
  4. Definitely deserves to be supported. Must get over to Boyle some time.
  5. My PR email into Liveline must've worked then. Send the cheque on to me Dave... Known to have a diecast fire engine collection.
  6. Suethe units are not that big as far as I remember, sit down into the funnel. You can see them here (Around 8:52 onwards) [video=youtube_share;K0G-vDMf9tI] They dont do it for me, just don't look realistic and dirty the track. But whatever floats your boat!
  7. Yep, this model of Birmingham New Street is an example of that. http://www.p4newstreet.com/
  8. They arent scale length by any stretch but if you don't mind that then fire away!
  9. They would need the buffers at each end. The doors are different too but it's only a slight change. The current Hornby or old Lima and Jouef coaches can be used.
  10. It's your best route to one. Check out this one made by Anthony. Looks fantastic and made up with the MIR kit http://www.irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/37-Anthony-s-Workbench?p=263&viewfull=1#post263
  11. Welcome to the site Liverbird. Guessing you're an LFC fan? Good man! MIR did a conversion kit for the Class 80 railcars which involved a Lima Class 73 power bogie and some Mark IIs. As MIR are no longer producing kits these could be hard to come by. Anthony might be along and he could give you a better idea on possible availability.
  12. It wasnt when they ramped them up 18 months ago. They were nearly 3 times the price of Hattons. The big RM increase was more recently I believe.
  13. The 2-4-2 tank looks delish!
  14. Bought some 2nd hand stuff off Modelfair in the past and the service is very good. Stuff sold as described. Mind you their postage rates have gone right up over the past 18 months.
  15. That sounds cool Dave. I picked up some Marklin track and stock a while ago with the intention of collecting a piece or two a year. I blame Steven for that! As you said they're pricey, but are impressive and Marklin has a certain charm.
  16. Amen, I love the control options DCC gives, and could never go back to analogue. I really thought I'd be in the minority on this one, but it seems a lot of people prefer the clickity clack of wheels over DCC sound. I can understand the appeal of DCC sound and why people enjoy it, I guess we're all different really. I feel better switching my latest SD70 order from sound fitted to DCC ready. Saved a packet too!
  17. Interesting points of view lads. I do like the powering up and a bit of shunting with them but after that I just lose interest. This is one of my locos, same engine as an 071 (although 20 cylinder compared to a 12 cylinder in an 071) and it sounds great powering up and slowing down, but after that it's just a high pitched whine. I know other locos sound different but they just all become a drone to me.
  18. I really like Marklin crocs!
  19. Just interested to hear what site members have to say about DCC sound? I have a number of British and American outline locos with DCC sound. Some were bought with sound installed by the factory, others I installed sound in myself. For the last few years I've been debating with myself if it really adds to the model itself. I've finally decided that it just doesn't do it for me. I wont be getting any more sound locos. Mind you I wont be getting rid of the ones I have, the novelty is nice but after a few hours it gets tiresome. I was thinking how nice a fleet of sound fitted 071s would be awesome, but no sound decoder and speaker can get that throbbing thud sound that you feel as it goes past you. Therefore it feels a bit '2-D' to me. What do you guys think? Am I talking out of my arse? Be interested to hear what others have to say.
  20. I read the reviews for the recently released big GWR tank locos. By the sounds of it they're really cutting corners with horrible moulded handles and chassis design. I have a Duke and P2 on order but I fear for them with this 'design clever' speak... And yes, Bachmann in particular are streets ahead. My most recent purchases from them are the 85 and Blue Pullman. Excellent models. Tempted by the 4F. Hopefully it will have tender pickups.
  21. That Olympics deal really did bite them on the arse. And reading about the quality of their latest locos it could go from bad to worse for them...
  22. They should have enough 201 bits to put it back together. Some of the original Enterprise livery engines sure are looking rough these days.
  23. N gauge Irish Mark IIIs? Hmmm, would need something to pull them but might be an option for them.
  24. GWR steamers were the sluts of the rails with all that copper and bling going on! The midland was where it was at!
