Interesting points of view lads. I do like the powering up and a bit of shunting with them but after that I just lose interest. This is one of my locos, same engine as an 071 (although 20 cylinder compared to a 12 cylinder in an 071) and it sounds great powering up and slowing down, but after that it's just a high pitched whine. I know other locos sound different but they just all become a drone to me.

Just interested to hear what site members have to say about DCC sound? I have a number of British and American outline locos with DCC sound. Some were bought with sound installed by the factory, others I installed sound in myself. For the last few years I've been debating with myself if it really adds to the model itself. I've finally decided that it just doesn't do it for me. I wont be getting any more sound locos. Mind you I wont be getting rid of the ones I have, the novelty is nice but after a few hours it gets tiresome. I was thinking how nice a fleet of sound fitted 071s would be awesome, but no sound decoder and speaker can get that throbbing thud sound that you feel as it goes past you. Therefore it feels a bit '2-D' to me. What do you guys think? Am I talking out of my arse? Be interested to hear what others have to say.

I read the reviews for the recently released big GWR tank locos. By the sounds of it they're really cutting corners with horrible moulded handles and chassis design. I have a Duke and P2 on order but I fear for them with this 'design clever' speak... And yes, Bachmann in particular are streets ahead. My most recent purchases from them are the 85 and Blue Pullman. Excellent models. Tempted by the 4F. Hopefully it will have tender pickups.

That Olympics deal really did bite them on the arse. And reading about the quality of their latest locos it could go from bad to worse for them...

They should have enough 201 bits to put it back together. Some of the original Enterprise livery engines sure are looking rough these days.

N gauge Irish Mark IIIs? Hmmm, would need something to pull them but might be an option for them.

GWR steamers were the sluts of the rails with all that copper and bling going on! The midland was where it was at!

There was a lot of drag on their axles as far as I know. They were a hard slog up gradients. with the wheels being that small a bit of dirt or grit can derail them easy enough too. Having said that they're really nice wagons. Perhaps Dapol made improvements over the first batch. The wagons themselves need to be weathered mind you, the blue is really bright and the real ones got manky very quickly. Believe it or not there has been two Eddie the engines. The first is the one you have (I have one too, sweet loco) and then the second was when DB got the Stobart gig and painted up 66 048 (I think that was the number) Anyway it derailed on it's first outing for Stobart in Scotland and has since been dumped in Toton looking very sorry for itself. A write off I'd imagine. DRS also painted up a second loco in Stobart livery and called it 'James the Engine'; 66 412 I believe. Both since have emigrated to Eastern Europe!

Bart the Engine, a Hornby DB Schenker Class 92. Hope you can get those Dapol wagons running properly, I know people who've had problems with them.

It's great that they're being allowed to stretch their legs a bit more for the Mallard 75 celebrations. Sure A4s are only getting into their stride at 90!
