All we need is a 5ft 3 version of that and take it to the Kingsc- oh wait, that’s a greenway now; maybe the Foyn- wait, that’s being lifted; how about Yough- greenway also; Feni- ditto. I guess there’s no abandoned tracks in Ireland to ride a yoke like that down anymore… Apart from the WRC! Hopefully that doesn’t get greenway’d.

I heard somewhere Irish Rail were looking for a(nother) mid-life refurbishment tender for them, so it looks the old DARTs won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

Playing Train Simulators a good bit, I’ve learned setting up a standard American EMD consists of starting the engine, flicking on yer ‘Engine Run’, ‘Field Generator’ and ‘Fuel Pump’ on. All you have to do then is set the cut-off and MU-2A valves, charge the automatic brake by using the handbrake until you got ~90 PSI, set the reverser forward (or backward), then put throttle up (not too high or you’ll put stress on the engine) and you get your loco moving! Simple!

The Clinchfield RR also painted their EMDs in a grey and yellow livery (albeit without the stripes):

Possible replacement for the UK 08 shunter

What would its TOPS code even be? 01-31 is already taken, and 32 is into the 1,500 hp range! -
They did it on the Cork service so there’s still a chance!

Which Kells? Also, I thought the Kingscourt line had very few pictures for a line that lasted 126 years.

Did driver training ever happen or is B134 still dormant in Inchicore, or even a run of the engine? Is it almost time for B134 to be back on the main line or is it still a while till we see any activity? I hope it’s out soon ‘cuz I can’t wait to see it!

This is sort of random, but does anyone have a photo or diagram of a Dublin & Meath or Navan & Kingscourt loco? Thanks in advance.

On the topic of the D&MR brake vans, anybody know where he got the drawings for them, or additional drawings of other stock?

I never knew classic coaches could look so good in a cider-branded livery!

And in Donegal too! Arguably one of the most isolated parts of the island making colour technology there so early quite a surprise to me too.

Review of Ireland's Rail Network
Branchline121 replied to Barl's topic in What's happening on the network?
Hopefully the Youghal branch, next section of WRC, closed section of MGWR main line, Navan line, Derry Road, Lisburn & Antrim line, the Waterford & Wexford line, and (my personal favourite but perhaps unrealistic) a line between Navan and Portadown with stops at Kingscourt and Armagh. None of these may ever open though, but with how rail transport is on the rise, maybe we should be hopeful! -
mgwr preserved railway Connemara Railway project.
Branchline121 replied to ttc0169's topic in What's happening on the network?
Wow, if there was that kind of dedication on the Navan line it would have been finished years ago! Good job! -
Horse transport and boxes on the Irish rail system
Branchline121 replied to Colin R's topic in Irish Models
Did MGWR horseboxes ever travel as far as the Kingscourt branch, to Proudstown Park maybe? -
I dunno… I think they’re cute enough. A bit weird, but still cool nonetheless.
-
They still have them in Tayto Park — or, well, did. They were surprisingly nice for something branded a “cheese & onion chocolate bar”, but suffered from, like what @Westcorkrailway said: awfully cheap chocolate. Apart from that, a nice little yoke to have and eat, but a bit too much of a gimmick to make them viable on store shelves.

When did the (newer) 2600s start losing their gangway ends? They were awful ugly but now without them they look identical to the 2800s.

M3 Parkway to Navan reopening confirmed
Branchline121 replied to Blaine's topic in What's happening on the network?
Yeah, it’s unlikely the Kingscourt line will reopen, but I like to think about it anyways. A spur to Kells like @Mayner said would probably be a better idea. I suppose it’s just that the greenway feels unproductive, seen as we already have one nearby in Ardee, but the reopening of the line would likely be unviable.
