It's great to see a lot of new members in the last week or so posting up and getting involved, and I'd like to offer them all a hearty welcome, and encourage the lads on the ditch to join in Richie.

Their "Terence and Philip" style of presenting is off putting, and the big lad's a bit creepy. "It put's the trees in the bucket....."

Looks cracking - love the hardstanding, the kadees, the tara wagons, the weathering, and the cheeky catwalk "do my buffers look big in this" turntable manoeuvre! Top stuff.

A couple of questions enterprise that might help with the design. 01: Have you a specific era you want to model? 02: Have you a specific area in mind? Rural/Urban/Exact Replica/Approximate 03: Does your stock dictate the type of activities that you'd like? Ballast loading/weedspraying/freight/passenger/DMU/ etc. This will put some limits on your design, but that's a good thing. Several diorama locations is more pleasing than everything piled up in one location, and allows you to work on small areas at a time, rather than jumping into the daunting task [after tracklaying] of scenery etc. Once you've run through those questions, we'll have a clearer idea of what you're going for. Lastly, a tip that should be front and centre in all of this. Designing on a computer is like trying to cook with a microwave. Start with a pencil and paper, gridded maths stuff if you're not comfortable with drawing, and scribble, sketch, start again, overlay with tracing, do the wildest layout and then trim it down each time. Only then should you go near the Mac. To butcher a well known phrase, "Lay track in haste, repent at leisure" Richie.

Are they going to post up the medical records of the two misfortunates also? They seem to blaming a hell of a lot on those poor part time sods. I smell a rat. A big fat rat. Who smell's a bit fishy too. A fishrat.

I was looking around Clonakilty in Cork for some nice old buildings, and settled on the barbers on the right as a nice little building that could become part of the Ballykay empire, albeit with the top storey chopped off. Half way through drawing it up, I noticed the gorilla, painted blue, with a gold suit on next door. Anyone know what that's about???

I have seen the DART's and I wouldn't buy one. In fairness, you could put a heap of small people inside bating the head off Bono and I still wouldn't buy it. I hate DARTs. But, here's a guy who has researched a model, done the drawings, bust his ass to make a prototype of a running model, and he is willing to turn up at the likes of raheny, prepared to take a heated discussion from those who eat sleep and drink this stuff, and still return and post here. Give him a break. Yes, his costings are cuckoo, but I have a feeling this is the first time we have collectively shouted out and said what might be acceptable price wise, and he may adjust to suit the market. After all,there are plenty muppets who have stuck absolute crap up on ebay at ferocious prices, and yet we stay quiet about it. A bit of balance lads. Please. It's quite simple - Those of you who don't want to purchase or invest, or ever intend on so - quit bitching. Those who have an interest, yet have a problem with detail or cost, PM the guy and sort it out. Richie.

Looks great Bosko, it keeps the track nice and restrained. Did you buy an airbursh for griming it up or are you going to use cans of track weathering spray paint like http://www.modelmates.co.uk/en-UK/Spray_Cans/Spray_Cans.html ?

Where's the "drool" icon? 071 is fabulous. The model in the flesh looks toy-like all clean, but your weathering has really grounded it.

don't mind that newfangled stuff. resurrect old signals from pubs and back gardens, and fix up them old level crossings, brand it as a heritage line and we're laffin. That modren CTC lark is overrated. Like DCC.

r Took me awhile to find it but Yes, the flip side of a roll of veneer you'll find in a hardware shop. The glue on the reverse goes on in a diamond pattern, similar to walkways, so if you paint the veneer grey, and run some pencil dust over the ribs it will look like patterened metal and hopefully pass the two foot rule. Etched brass though, from weshty et al, would be better. But, I was out in IKEA at the weekend - gotta pay for Raheny at some point - they have these brush and pan sets, 2.50 each. For the cheapest source of straight thin plastic, purchase one, grab a Stanley, cut the brushes off. Several thousand scale pipes for hundreds of uses. Also, avonmore milk produce a pint of milk in a styrene type container. Drink milk, rinse, and cut to size to replace that missing roof from the hornby weetabix wagon etc. Same curve. Add brush bristles that you made earlier, to create roof banding, for added detail. Will post this on my WB tomorrow. Must be off. Yard brushes to be investigated for goodness...

Any man who can use a lining pen with skill is a man to be listened to. I spent a long time looking for one, got it, and never understood, after a half assed effort, how one was supposed to line a Titfiled Thunderbolt or similarly curved steam number. Like plastering, it is an art and mystery. R
