  1. Kevin, I'm unsure of the dates when the yellow band at the front became red, but here are a few photos. 1982-84 I believe and the livery on the coaches is quite something...and yes that's a BR livery on this side of the ditch! Kirley kindly answered a similar post some time ago. http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/2323-NIR-70-80s-livery?p=34361&viewfull=1#post34361 Richie
  2. You did that in 3 months? Wow... puts the rest of us armchair generals to shame... (Hangs head in shame...)
  3. Agreed, and i admire the timed challenge approach to this build. Looking forward to your results and thoughts on the approach afterward :-) richie.
  4. Cryptic Mark - who is it???
  5. Think i just broke me jaw laughin!
  6. "Five Park Royal Coaches - 1385, 1394, 1395,1399 and 1407 were converted to flat wagons 654A to 658A at Inchicore Works in November 1992, the order of conversion was not recorded" - there should be photos about of these. Usual location is listed as Portlaoise in ITG First Edition. Had a quick scan through some slides I have here, and this is all I have found so far. They look like GNR chassis/bogie combos with NR branded on the solebar of the 4 wheeler up front? Will have a deeper trawl later....
  7. Ha Ha! no wonder I had little luck finding info! I'd imagine they're loaned K?
  8. NUMBER SERIES: 24224-24240 VEHICLE TYPE: Rail truck BUILDERS: CIE WEIGHT: 20 tons 10 cwt COUPLING: Instanter INTRODUCED: 1973 LENGTH: 62 ' 0" (edit - 62'9" according to drawings) CAPACITY: 41 tons BRAKES: Hand/ Vacuum I've googled in the past for "Double Bogie Perway Rail Layer" and variations of that, and come up with these photos. No copyright infringement intended. It appears there are two wagons dedicated to this role - the others in the series appear to be pencilled in as Sleeper Relaying Gantry Train, the Long Welded Rail train (new steels), and the Permanent Way Steel Train (Old steels) - I could be wrong though. Hope these are of some assistance. Richie.
  9. I have some info on them upstairs which i'll get in the morn. They're 60' wagons with traversing cranes. The cranes have a lawnmower type motor on them and the hooks grab rail and it's slung onto the ballast shoulder of the track. This is then formed up to make the 10' gauge temporary donelli track. The top deck is much higher than other flats and i think there are only two of them. r.
  10. I have this drawing here which I did, and I can't put my paw on any backing up info, 32mm or 8 feet in scale seems to be the distance. Riversuir.pdf R.
  11. If you ask Weshty here (SSM) nicely, he'll fold the sides for you on a rolling machine beforehand and enniscorthyman is right about scoring the sides etc. As for primer, it's a must as paint and brass don't like each other. I dunk the brass parts in white vinegar first for an hour, wash with wire wool, and then use a coat of airbrushed varnish as a primer, and it works fine, but it needs a day to dry. Halfords sell metal primers which I believe are equally effective. R
  12. Obvious candidates for Mk 4 goodness methinks..... (hint feckin hint lads) R

Real good footage of the roof detail KK, thanks a mil. Richie
  14. Thought the lads at D&M did DeDietrich/enterprise stock fran, and not Mark IV's?
  15. My jaw hurts from all the dropping on that first link. Cheers Fran.
  16. Cheers John, bloomin legend!
  17. Looks good Tom, but is the bogie not a fair distance from the buffer beam?
  18. It's on!
  19. Pah Fran. You're not acknowledging the "Kerr" factor. Those that were known during the World Cup commentary as "Yer Man Delaney" who's name is actually Marouane Fellaini suggests many goals, he needs a haircut via hedge cutter, and united to win league, fa cup, and a purple rinse.
  20. Growing up in limerick city, knacker drinking was finished off by a can of pineapple rings - only thing that could be robbed from the press without an inquest. Still, it's as odd as a box of monkeys.
  21. Good advice tony on those products.
  22. More than welcome, that's what IRM is here for!
  23. Firstly you can get adapters for airbrushes to allow more control if restricted movement is an issue. http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Air-Brush-Holder-Handle-Easy-Grip-Airbrush-Grip-New-Model-/330938923296?pt=UK_Crafts_DrawingSupplies_EH&hash=item4d0d7f3920 There is also this reasonably priced option http://www.ebay.ie/itm/VEDA-WD-115-Dual-Action-Gravity-Feed-Airbrush-Complete-Kit-/231155517738?pt=UK_Crafts_DrawingSupplies_EH&hash=item35d1f1492a The compressor is the right sort, no need to worry about oil, and it's quiet enough to use downstairs without waking someone upstairs. Hairdryer on medium? Pressure is more than enough for spraying models. Perhaps theres a way for you to see a set up in person to de-mystify the gear? R.
  24. Rip off ireland is alive and well it seems. Right model though. http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Airbrush-Compressor-Tank-AS189-with-water-separator-pressure-reducer-/331236422300?pt=UK_Crafts_DrawingSupplies_EH&hash=item4d1f3ab29c
