  1. You took the words right out of my mouth Gareth, it looks amazing Magpie great work . The talk through and explanations are great and should spur more people to have a go. Rich,
  2. You're flying Vincent. It's great to see this whole project coming together from planing to laying of track and scenics. Keep us posted and well done . Rich,
  3. I have been looking at some old pics of the as delivered 071's and the model is correct. I had seen pics of Supertrain 071's with grey headlight surrounds and had also presumed that some had arrived that way, but it seems that they were changed in the 80's. Anthony's pic shows that the loco pic was taken in the 80's as the MK111's were introduced in the 80's. Fran did his homework on this and deserves top marks for his research. Likewise young Vincent got it right so well done to him also. The roof fans look good on the model and it looks like an 071 in most areas, so kudos to Mr Murphy for that. I'm looking forward to the releases from October. I am slightly worried about the color as John Mayne has said but photos from that era are not as sharp as today and saturation can make color's seem less sharp. Rich,
  4. Amazing work John, it's smashing, well thought out and executed. I shall be buying some 21mm wagons in fleet quantities. The outside W irons and riveting are beautiful. The brake gear looks excellent, all we need now is for SMM to produce some etched beer cages for their excellent kegs and we can have some decent beer trains running again. I might change plan and have a pre current Weed Spray Train also. Were the two axle timber wagons also built on these chassis John. Well done John . Rich,
  5. Thanks for the link Gareth . It looks damn impressive in those pics. Rich,
  6. For more prototypical or realistic track flowing and formations get some tracksetta if you are using Peco Streamline crossings and flexible track lengths. Also get a Xuron track cutter and you will never look back. Peco are producing some nice flat bottom rail concrete crossings also so don't rule them out depending on the era you are modelling. Good luck with you're project I am sure it will be smashing:tumbsup:. Fire me a pm if you need any advice or pointers, I would be delighted to lend a hand. Rich,
  7. Welcome aboard Dave . Rich,
  8. Snapper I use adhesive or strong double sided tape to put all the different grades of wet and dry on ice lolly sticks. You get loads for your money, a nice little file like tool, and I have an indispensable amount that will last me a modelling lifetime. Simple and easy to make and they are great tool's. This one has definitely seen better days. Rich,
  9. You seem to have a taste for other continent music Eamonn. You should have a listen to some of the stuff on Peter Gabriel's Real World label. I'm listening to The The at the moment, the Infected abum. Come on down The devils in town He's brought you sticks and stones To bust you're neighbors bones he's stuck his missiles in you're garden He theories down you're throat God knows what you're going to do with him Coz I certainly don't Great lyrics, great album, great tune Rich,
  10. Purple I have friends and family that are IE employees so I am fortunate that these people can get access to the places that no unauthorized person or persons should be, on IE property. I often get permission from either the Inspector at Sallypark or in Plunkett Station to take pics myself and I am always accompanied by a member of staff. I worked for IE so I still know some of the staff and this helps enormously. I would advise strongly that no person or persons should trespass on IE property without permission. For a start you are breaking the law and unknowingly you could be messing things up for those of us that take responsibility, or worse put a member of IE staff or someone contracted to do work for IE in danger. Unless people in IE know or trust you it's a bad idea for any member to just walk in there, as one day you'll get caught and it's the end for all of us. I don't think for a minute that you would go in to any area belonging to IE Purple without prior permission and fair play for asking your questions regarding permission from the staff. It's a sign of the times that freight is no longer as busy as it once was and therefore a liner or timber train would be the most common freight you would see at Waterford - Waterford West these days. On other occasions you might see a weed spray, ballast train, or pw vehicle, but that's about it. Locos are very thin on the ground and all you would be likely to see are 071 - 201 class locos, the 22000 and 2700 class are the only everyday railcars that you would see except on Sundays, you may see a different class member or preserved loco on a railtour and that is all. I took a lot of my photos over the last 25 - 30 years so I am lucky to have seen a lot of different rolling stock that is only a memory now. If you want any info on scratch building the beets Purple please pm me and I should have the dimensions somewhere in my collection. Anything you need to know fire away and ask as someone on here will know. I should also say that I know people in Clonmel that have been very helpful and accommodating during my visits doing research for the layout. It cost's nothing to be well mannered and ask for permission before just walking into a yard or jumping over a fence. Remember if you don't have prior permission you are trespassing and therefore breaking the law. We have discussed this as moderators and I think the best thing to do is always ask permission, for your own safety and the safety of others. Rich,
  11. I use Barrow Bridge as my avatar Tom. The pic was taken from the mother in laws barbecue area in the garden. Had a lovely view of the tall ships last year. Raytex had a railway siding many years ago if I remember correctly. Rich,
  12. Great pics Des. Isn't it strange the way that even the MK111 EGV's never seemed to get as dirty as the MK11 variant. I remember seeing MK11 sets every day in Waterford and they always looked filthy above the gutter strip, especially when the roofs were orange. It was harder to gauge how dirty they were after they started painting the roofs black, and that is probably one of the reasons that IE did paint the roofs black. Rich,
  13. I told you before Stephen it happens. Rich,
  14. Excellent work Stephen as usual. Now I'm off to watch Enter the Dragon. Rich,
  15. Ah the old Red Iron Bridge as it is affectionately known as in Waterford. One of the spans is sitting just beyond the cabin at Waterford West. The swinging part of the Bridge is in Africa I think. It is a copy of the Barrow Bridge but not as long. Waterford South Station was located very close to where the Stanley foundry was, it was closed in 1908. Now the foundry is no more as it was pulled down a few years ago. I had family and friends that worked in the foundry and the stories they could tell you. Rich,
  16. Aren't they just Stephen. 082 is interesting as it is in the first batch of the 071-111 models to be released so it is a good reference for weathering the model. The pic of the exhaust on 233 is priceless for anyone weathering their 201's. Well done Baby GM on the pics they are great, and remember photograph everything related to the railway as there is always something that is elusive and hasn't been captured, and if you get the chance do it as long as you are not putting yourself or anyone else in danger. Rich
  17. It's nice to see that at least some of the MK111 fleet will still be on the rails even if it is only a couple of EGV's. It sickens me to see the MK111 coaches being left to rot in Waterford West every time I pass there, or every time I am on Gratton Quay in Waterford. They were always one of the most comfortable coaches to travel on and one of the best all round designs. What I wouldn't give to see a rake earning revenue on the rails behind a 201 or an 071. Rich,
  18. Well spotted Snapper. There were 8 Composite MK111 coaches in the fleet 7165-72. The coaches were divided into two seating arrangements, one first class section and a standard section so you are correct in your description, now go to the top of the class and there's no homework for you tonight . Rich,
  19. Anto it's a first class coach. Some of them received grey roofs. I haven't seen any with black roofs as Csalem has said, but that doesn't mean that there weren't any. A MK111 First Class with grey roof at Waterford Plunkett. The 1st Class emblem which is on the 1st Class end of the coach taken at Waterford Plunkett. The other end of the coach has the standard IE plug socket emblem on the doors. Rich,
  20. Good man Snapper keep em coming . Rich,
  21. 209 looks stunning Noel. There is no doubting the fact that the repainting and weathering services provided by the traders and professionals on this site is of the highest quality that you could ask for. I've got to say that the original Enterprise livery and the original as delivered IE livery best suit the 201's. I can't wait for MM to release 230 in the original Enterprise livery, and if it isn't until next year then the wait will be worth it. By the way Noel the layout looks amazing . Rich,
  22. That's very true Anto, a couple of days out working and they start to pick up road dirt. I think I might purchase another Inter City liveried 201 and re-number her to 234, and just give her a very light weathering. Rich,
  23. I posted this one in the MK111 7 series collection a few days ago. It's a pity no one asked for pics as I would have been able to oblige. Hopefully someone else may find it useful. Des if you read this and you think it might be useful as a resource for the SSM website please feel free to use it. Rich,
  24. Snapper thanks again for posting these pics they are superb. I have a few more myself and I will upload them asap. I also have pics of the bogie cements and will do likewise. I have to agree with Gareth's sentiments above about the flurry of recent activity in members uploading pics from their collections, it's great to have a collection of pics as a library for everyone. A lot of good pics have been thin on the ground since the demise of fotopic. I will continue to upload more pics as and when time permits. Rich,
  25. Truly cracking pics Snapper thanks for posting them, please keep them coming. This part of the group is turning out to be a great resource for pics, and a library of information. Rich,
