The MkIId fleet was officially referred to as AC stock (air-conditioned stock). The term 'Supertrain' was a marketing name used to emphasise the step-change in quality between older stock and the MkIId vehicles. The original livery was a modified version of the existing black & tan colours carried by existing vehicles, i.e. more of the tan and less black, with no white stripe. As enniscorthyman notes above the IRRS Journal of June 2008 has an excellent article by Barry Carse on the history of the AC stock, including photographs of the experimental liveries. I'm not sure when the golden brown livery gave way to the brighter orange colour. The 'Supertrain' branding was never applied to the MkIII fleet.

Looking good Sulzer201. Luck escape for 071, I'd say you got a scare alright! What's the backscene in the pics of the oil train? It looks continental.

The images were worth watching but the commentary was more than somewhat banal.

No, the things under the track.

The photo of the Davy Crocket brings back mixed memories. I was about to buy one in a shop on St Stephens Green close to the top of Grafton St (forget the name). The sales assistant took the loco out of the box to let me have a look at it, but when she was putting it back she just dropped it into the box which she was holding vertically. Of course it passed straight through the box, opening the flap at the lower end and crashing to the floor! Naturally the front end of the loco, cow catcher, smokestack etc were in bits. I ended up buying a 2-car railcar instead and this ended up painted in CIÉ black & tan livery.

Absolutely fantastic! Stupid question time:confused:: what are the white things that look like the backs of tickets in the photos of the turnouts?

Which of the liveries Anthony - the dark green one used on the northern based MkII set, or the awful wishy washy blue being applied to the Cravens set based in Dublin? Also, I note that the caption to the picture in the above link states that the AC has been removed by RPSI. I presume that it has been replaced by some other form of ventilation as, without opening windows, it would get somewhat hot and stuffy inside the coach.

For those of us who will miss tomorrow's transmission, because we are at Brian Solomon's presentation in the IRRS, the programme will be repeated on Wednesday 14 November on BBC2 Northern Ireland @ 23:50 (23:20 in other BB2 regions).

Roryon, don't knock yourself. As Heirflick says 'there is no such thing as a rubbish layout!' Yours looks great and at least you have made a start and have a layout. Unlike myself who is still 'between layouts'!

I stand corrected. As a model of a 'pig ugly' loco it is excellent!

While the exterior appearance of the loco is similar to the 071/111 classes, the interior of the cab follows American practice.

I'd have to disagree. I think it is a most ugly design. Much better designs, IMHO, are the SD60M and the SD70M and I think that the retro liveries would look a lot better on these.

Once again an excellent piece of modelling.

Got to the exhibition on the Monday. Great show. Picked up a MM 112 - great looking model - maybe Westy will produce a kit for adding in the missing cables etc? Also got one of Lukas' excellent calendars - well done that man!!!

One way or the other I hope you all enjoy the show! I'll be there on the Monday. It will be the first time in six years that I'll have been able to attend so I'm really looking forward to it.
