  1. Personally I would paint it orange and black just for the craic
  2. My father in law rescued me there a while back. He says to herself "well wouldn't it be worse if he was out every night spending money in the bar and the bookies" . Of course he speaks from experience being an avid amateur photographer with a lot of kit...
  3. I suppose it is reasonably logical, even without the outer layer. Chipboard, for example, is rather flexible and requires many cross beams in any application. Considering the actual load involved in model railways, maybe polystyrene board is not a bad idea. It is actually quite rigid and easy to work with. As long as you don't lean on it...

  9. Funny enough I was recently chatting to a fella who gave up the smokes and spent the money collecting trains. You should see his collection!!!!
  10. Yes I even have a separate little account with a card so I can keep tabs on spending. Sounds daft, but I can see what goes in and out that way and encourages me to save for the better items.
  11. Wow!!!!
  12. I have a second job for one evening a week from which I put away a few quid for the trains. I try to keep it within that 'pocket money' ... I have become reasonable at saving up for more expensive things. There are some things in the hobby that don't seem worth the money however, the two best things I have bought and most rewarding and value for money are the Murphy Models 141 s and my NCE powercab. Well built, work impeccably.

  18. Attempting a gypsum hopper ('newer' type) . No chassis yet. The internal masking tape is just there to help to hold it square while the glue sets. I am enjoying this whole scratch building malarkey but I couldn't do a chassis
  19. There was some amount of freight in '93
  20. That is great info many thanks
  21. Did these gypsum wagons ever run on Kingscourt during CIE or Irish Rail era? http://newirishlines.org/tag/ulster-transport-authority/
  22. 071 071 is called into service for the last run of some coaches before the breakers yard in Dundalk or Adelaide. or maybe this little station serves a bustling satellite town and for once the branch line is saved by forward thinking folk....
