  1. Folks, if any of you shop with sterling, this is a serious bargain from Marks Models: DCC ready new railroad version. I always wanted a Scotsman and the boy in me won hands down at this price: http://www.marksmodels.com/?pid=22368
  2. You will find lots of help here.welcome
  3. Ok, so it may be awkward and slightly infringe on the no politics rule, however, it is part of our Island's railway history. I remember being at a debate in the early '90s , feelings ran high about the peace train people, and I indeed was rather more opinionated myself back then, but it was indeed part of a wider desire to move forward and show some sort of willingness to shake off the past. I don't remember there being many actual trains. Here is a photo I pinched from the web:
  4. Thanks k and thump. How do you make a wash ? Is it just diluted acrylic?
  5. I finally got to put together Provincial Models bulleid beet wagon kit from Leslie. What a kit! Marvellous. I will be putting together a little rake of these to serve with the gypsum wagons, another of their uses. I think the colour is a little light. I used a spray called pewter to try to get that dipped steel look.
  6. I must say I am extremely happy with my US NCE power cab. It is a well designed and easy to use, yet powerful piece. I also think that hobbies such as ours really need standards as encouraged by the NMRA. Without some form of standardisation we would not be able to use equipment from Ireland, UK, Germany, the U.S. etc together. The result of DCC standardisation is the creation of a global link in the hobby which has created a great choice for the consumer. The NMRA aren't too bad in my opinion.

  8. V nice TDR . Signalling is a bit of an enigma to me. Semaphores were fairly straightforward but apart from the red green signals I don't really get the smaller triangular type
  9. Very nice ballasting. It is not easy to do. I like your signals too. Looks like you're going for some v realistic train movements
  10. Big mess there alright. Driver will be sore I would say. Lucky. The overhead shot is a reminder of the power in these beasts
  11. It is interesting and similar to Dcc. The fact that it uses the existing connectors will certainly help it become established. I am still exploring the possibilities of DCC so maybe some time in the future. It is certainly a well designed and tested product.
  12. Thanks. Yes Jason, many many people would disagree and dislike to see different eras together. To be honest I will eventually try to run correct trains at least, but I have no intention at all of focussing on one era. Life is too short to only get one livery of murphy models !!!!
  13. I have concentrated on this area in order to complete it. The points that I can't reach are now wired. The steam era J15 has been neglected for some time. The weeds grow thick around her wheels, although I am surprised nobody has nicked the coal. (Not a real j15 just a cheeky conversion for a set piece)
  14. Wow !!!!
  15. I really enjoy watching this layout progress. I like the track work.
  16. I really like this idea. Super to look at.
  17. Thanks folks. I made the bar myself to sit with the Ould house Bachmann building. I had a good look at some real street buildings and settled on a fairly straightforward design. The name was a photo that I printed off v small till I got it right. The facade is made with plasticard strip.
  18. Thanks. A few more shots. Getting that getting there feeling. 190 heads up a short craven run, meanwhile a dirty 073 pulls the inter city.
  19. Took a fair while to wire up these lights. A little bit overly continental but who knows maybe I lll run a DB or two though here some day !
  20. Pm sent
  21. Thanks v much. great range there that i was unaware of. They really are well detailed.
  22. Also found a copy of modeling the irish narrow gauge in a second hand book shop
  23. Ok thats good to know. I paid 7 each for these so i did ok ! Was worried it wss a bit steep but they actually are nice quality.
