  3. The next stage progresses. Dugort Harbour is a Valentia-like extension of a long straggling line, like Cork - Bantry or the South Kerry line, which ends after a meandering two-hour journey from Cork at the fictitious large town of Castletown West. Once the entire layout is complete, it will be the existing Dugort branch terminus to C West, then on by the “main line” to Cork (or maybe Mallow) - in reality, a fiddle yard. Work proceeded today, courtesy of my Learned Friend in all matters DCC, and track laying between Dugort & Castletown has now started. The following pics give an idea. The train will be a typical “main line” Cork train; in this case about 1968….
  4. You’d have seen it about for some years afterwards, though none of those type of wagons lasted until IE days. The “Set of points” logo only appeared in 1987. The old CIE roundel would have been on some locomotives, though, well into the 1990s.
  5. Years ago I made a few buildings out of card and just painted them with matt paint. There was slight warping on the first one I did, so I ensured that the next had more rigid framing (wooden bars), and that turned out ok. The card was even thinner than what you’re using, so your own should be more than satisfactory with paint.

  8. If you mean the lamp housings permanently attached to guards vans, the body colour. Grey van, grey mountings.

  10. Painted normal colour of van, thus grey, just like every single other square inch of the van. Got dark-coloured with rust & smoke almost immediately, though!
  11. Only seeing this. Footboards were always painted black by CIE, but weathered down with brake dust and wear and tear to a nondescript grubby colour.
  12. It would have been the biggest of the four, spread out over a very long site.
  13. Looks good - a good representation, as the real thing to scale on a layout would be enormous.
  14. A "Woolwich" could do it on about eight tons of coal there and back, with a good crew and not too many cattle vans on the back..... Just sayin'..........
  15. I doubt very much if they did - personally, at the time they were current I was commuting on that line daily and never saw anything in Galway livery on the Enterprise. I do recall seeing at least one on a Cork train once, though, mixed in with other stock in ordinary livery.
  16. Yes, though very few. Allman’s in Bandon and Courtaulds in Carrickfergus, plus Derry Docks and Guinness, are about the only ones I can think of offhand.

  18. Yes, it is. He is a pleasure to deal with. I bought a few odds from him last year. He sells all his remaining stuff via that way now.

  20. The cabs, yes indeed - but the side tanks? Either way, an ingenious conversion! The livery for the GSWR was lined dark olive green as shown above until about 1902, after which black lined in red and white became the norm. The all-over dark grey first appeared about 1915, possibly following the extensive re-boilering programme at that time. During the currency of the dark green, lining was pale green, red and black up to about 1880 or so, with same green lined in black and cream later. Frames were mid-brown during the green livery.
  21. Recently, there was talk of a yellow inspection car travelling from Rosslare Strand to Waterford. While some enthusiasts gathered at various points along the line to see this, but left empty handed when it did not appear as they had expected, one of these cars WAS seen approaching Waterford from Abbey Junction. This was maybe about three weeks ago. What I'm after is knowing whether it did traverse the whole route, or maybe just waterford out to the bridge and back - and whether anyone has a photograph of it that would be willing to lend me. Many thanks.
