  1. Very best of luch with it Gareth. You're back on GNR ground now - all that atea was originally the GNR's extensive Adelaide shed and sidings.... hope the new shop is in yellow brick!
  2. The thing about Mr W is that he can well afford such things! But for us mere spectators, that is great! (Imagine an "0" gauge exact representation of Heuston Station in 1972!)

Regarding all of the above and my interest in things Indonesian, there are a number of enthusiast bodies in that country including the equivalent of this site concerning models. but I have yet to see a really good PJKA layout.... OK, it's a minority interest I know, and in a world with unlimited time and money who knows....

  5. It is indeed - one of the later laminates c. 1957 build. Craven coaches at that stage would generally only have been on top-line main line use.

  8. The utter realism of those weathering jobs from Newry never cease to amaze me! I'd be almost afraid to touch those models in case I got covered in oil!!!!
  9. I saw that a while ago. It's been on the market for some time. Seems to be a yard next to it - check google earth - looks OK inside. The only thing is you'd have no privacy whatsoever... could always take it down and lorry it away to Downpatrick!!!!!
  10. Yes, Train model - it's unfortunate but real. To the public they see that as an average of 20mph.
  11. What has damaged the Limerick to Galway route now is journey times. Unless a new route can clearly save time over road it will be hard to get it to work and justify expenditure. Few places in Ireland now present local conditions where such a thing would be likely.

  13. I've seen one too - they didn't stay that way loong, and in fact I wouldn't be certain all of them had the tan, instead just being black / white.
  14. I got a pair of black'n'tan beauties in the post 2 days ago, only ordered previous day. Excellent stuff. Their customer service is second to none, even if they couldn't get one of my credit cards to work...!!

  16. .... and there are numerous photos of ex-GNR railcars in the early '60's in UTA service, still in dark blue and cream, but with GNR crests and "G N R" painted out and UTA "red hand" logo on both the sides (where the GNR crest had been) and on the driving cab ends. And still with GNR-style numerals. Exk, often en ded up-GNR steam engines on the UTA, if not repainted in full UTA lined black livery, sometimes ended up remaining in GNR blue (and very dirty usually), but the "G N" and crest on the tender painted out and a new UTA number in GNR style numerals on cabsides and buffer beams. the "U T" stencil was there too...
  17. If there's a photo there ye go lads, that's the proof! If such things occurred, they didn't stay that way long copmpared with 141s and A's - although with a greater number of locos in each of those classes that might explain why they seemed more numerous.. Interesting re. 121's; again, while I never saw one myself, that's not proof it didn't happen! It would be interesting to see photos. Yes, they did tend to "slap the new logo on" - I suppose with the new IE logo similar will happen. It certainly did when flying snails gave way to broken wheels. Possibly more so on CIE buses, but I have seen a pic of a green double decker with a white broken wheel, and pics of both navy and cream double deckers, and red and cream single deckers, with white "snails". Preserved NCC "WT" No. 4 ended NIR service with an NIR logo on one side and a UTA crest on the other........

Have to agree with Killucan - I certainly saw most of the class all over the place in those days and I never saw a supertrain-liveried loco with the "set of points" logo but no "tippex" white lines. They seemed to all have been repainted properly. One 141 at least sported "sets of points" on the sides, while still carrying a "broken wheel" on each end!!! See page 43, "Rails Through the West", loco 155, caught on film by Barry Carse in 1990. I stand to be corrected on this one, but I would be reasonably sure that no 121 carried the new logo without white stripes - I certainly don't remember seeing it. Seemed to be a disease caught only by classes A, 141 & 181!

  22. Very interesting pics - believe it or not, that's the green. For comparison see the coach attached to it - it's green too, albeit faded; but the pic makes it look greyish. That is the thing in its pre-stripes version, thus it is certainly taken on early trial runs.
  23. Very much so! In the line's final days, the 8 native C & L engines were reduced to at best three in w/order, often only one. And the T & D ones, with the exception of No. 6, weren't in best order either. As for the carriages!!!!....
  24. It's quite possible, Minister. Those engines were unsung heroes in Irish narrow gauge lore, having b een designed for fast suburban trains on Ireland's only narrow gauge double-track suburban line. That the CBPR could operate an intensive service reliably with just four of these engines all its narrow-gauge life is testament enough. Apart from the NCC 2.4.2Ts, the only n-g locos with which they were comparable, they would have been the fastest narrow gauge locos in ireland. While the other locos and rolling stock on the C & L were very decrepit indeed by CIE days, strangely the track on that system was in tip-top condition. The only thin g I would have worried about if racing one of those engines on the C L would have been whether the carriage behind me would fall to bits!
