  1. The cement wagons look good with a nice touch of weathering. Both types of cement wagons came north to Adelaide back in the good old days of freight.
  2. Thanks Noel and Stephen for the info, can see now Noel why you went to the trouble of modelling the interior of a GSV.
  3. Kieran, your work rate is fantastic and the quality you are producing is brilliant, keep up the good work.
  4. The BUT sets were the mainstay on the Enterprise in the mid 60s more so than the AEC sets,up to when the 70 class took over. The life of these railcars was surprisingly short lived.
  5. Nice work with the Park Royal and steam heating van Noel. What's the story with the steam heating van,the series number suggests there were only 5,is this correct? If so,did they get about the system or were they confined to a a particular area?
  6. So often we say a photo of a model looks like the real thing, but the above photo actually looks like a model, nice pic, have a soft spot for the per way also
  7. Kieran-they were painted white/off white with the red logo, would look good in with a rake of Bell containers.
  8. Kieran-yes,the Merlinir containers were owned by NIR,used in the same way as the Bell and B & I containers, not sure how successful they were or how many of them existed, but they were scarce on the ground.Probably NIRs attempt to get a foothold in the marketplace with a busy freight period at the time and the great facilities they had at Adelaide.
  9. Thanks Colm , I will give them a try
  10. Sorry Seamus, did'nt get any pics at the show
  11. Sorry Seamus, did'nt get any pics at the show
  12. Nice work Ivor, the 70 class is looking good
  13. Nice video Kieran, the MED is looking good. One question, where did you get your etched number for the WT.I am looking foe an etched number 6,as this was one of the few loco's to receive the NIR logo and retain the original coal bunker.
  14. Great show at Perth this weekend, some great layouts on show with a nice Irish themed O gauge layout Castle Rackrent, lovely models with a great removable roof wagon the pick of them.Great trade support also and the space between the layouts was very user friendly,no problem for wheelchair access which was good to see.Best show for the viewing public in Scotland by far, well done to all involved.
  15. Nice link Broithe, thanks for posting! England have been put out of their delusional state that they could still qualify with 2 defeats by the wee team that forgot to read the World Cup script.Well done Costa Rica!
  16. Certainly not quiet where I am,much delight with the view of the Scotland fan (in the hideous pink away kit) celebrating in the Uruguay end,he stood out like a sore thumb!
  17. Looks like the England football team are going the same way as their cricketers-heading for a whitewash!!
  18. Great update again from Tara Junction Noel, the orange and black era will never be surpassed.
  19. The ref was certainly a homer tonight, lets hope the rest are a bit more braver and not afraid to make big decisions in the days to come.
  20. Great start with the MPDs Kieran, looking forward to their progress, your efforts might be the boot I need to get my own started.
  21. Blatter has been on a different planet for years, time for football to come back to its roots,it's been taken away from the working class man sadly
  22. The World Cup is there for the big South American teams to lose. That said,I think Uruguay will have a good tournament with a potential of winning it.Of the European challenge,Belgium play some great football and are probably the best all round European team at the moment, good enough for a top 3 finish.
  23. Trains to Bangor were every half hourly back then,so the operation did not impact on the normal services. The final Enterprise service each day would then head to Central Services for cleaning etc.
  24. UP6936-great question and there are a number of answers to it that some of the guys have already mentioned above. At the start of the Hunslet operation in 1970,NIR used the Hunslets top and tail with all 8 coaches which comprised 2x std driving trailers,1x first open,4x second opens and the buffet car. This soon reduced to 7 coaches with 1 coach held in reserve, normally a second open.A reduced winter formation was also used as mentioned by David, which was 1 Hunslet with up to 5 or 6 coaches in push/pull formation, again this would have had the std driving trailer, first open, buffet and 2 to 3 open seconds.6 coaches seemed to become the norm, although this was a tad heavy for 1 Hunslet. In 1972,more coaches were purchased,1 of which was a 1st driving trailer, which thus meant the winter formation started to comprise of it,the buffet and 3 std opens, which was a bit more manageable for the 1 Hunslet. As with all things on NIR,this was never set in stone...With the extra coaches,a 10 coach set and a 12 coach set were tried, but this was not a success and was soon dropped. As Colin pointed out,the driving trailer was normally at the Belfast end as this suited facilities at Great Victoria Street, but again there were exceptions to this also...Hope this helps.
