  1. Kieran, you work at some pace, barely 1 project finished and your on to another.Nice work with the CAF,looks like a hard livery to recreate.Good to see a start on the Bredin coaches, look forward to seeing your progress with them.
  2. Interesting to see the inside of the sandite 80 class, thanks for posting
  3. I think you have hit the nail on the head there John.My layout thread GVSt and Adelaide is being built with the great childhood memories I have from living beside Adelaide station in the 70s.I was lucky to witness the swansong of steam with the jeeps, the building of Adelaide freight yard from the ruins of the old GNR loco sheds on the bog meadow and seeing every type of railcar,AEC,BUT,MED,MPD,70s and 80s running along side brand new DH and DLs with various forms of rolling stock.Added to that the CIE Enterprise in the hands of an A class or 141/181 with the 071s coming a few years later, but the main highlight was watching the freight operations all day during the holidays at Adelaide, with As,Cs and 141/181s hauling traditional freight trains with a brake van, before being replaced with the container traffic.Always remember racing the freight trains as they pulled out of Adelaide along the back entry's as far as Lislea(were the entry ran out)and waving to the brakeman.Happy days, hence the reason of trying to recreate it all in model form.
  4. David-not my era of knowledge, but I would very much doubt if an NCC train ever travelled south via the GNR.That said,I don't think you will need a tall story to allow the running of such a train on Old Blarney at Falkirk,in fact you will probably get a fair bit of interest from viewers with the LMS connection to the NCC.Looking forward to seeing Old Blarney again next month and don't worry I keep quiet about the maroon engine running in the deep south.
  5. Great job with the spoil wagon Nelson,it really looks the part.Nice set of level crossing gates too
  6. Nice job Kieran, your new soldering skills are looking good, well done
  7. Totally agree Kieran.Superb work and superb thread Ivor. The railcars were the backbone of the UTA/NIR transport system, but never received the recognition they deserved. They were caught in the era of the last years of steam and the introduction of the then new diesels that came in to displace the steam engines and therefore they paled into insignificance between the two.But pioneers they were,MEDs with power assisted doors in the 50s,certainly ahead of their time.
  8. Great work Kieran, nice to see so many different angled photos of the various railcars.Really enjoyed the various threads of the recent railcar builds on the forum,to often the humble railcar is dismissed as a piece of plastic, personally I think the original UTA/NIR railcars were iconic and much more interesting than what many people think, your MPD builds with their various characteristics show this brilliantly, well done.
  9. Looking good Kieran, would be interested in your final thoughts of the full build once completed.
  10. Good work again Kieran, your skills are improving all the time.
  11. Look forward to the next instalment Colin.
  12. Great work again with the MPD set,up to your usual high standard.Certainly is a surge of MPD sets in model form on the go just now, good to see models of these iconic UTA railcars
  13. Great to see Tara Junction as busy as usual and up to its normal high standards, great pics Noel
  14. Nice work Kieran, the coach looks fantastic and the interior is important with those large windows. The spoil wagon kit looks good also,a few of them will be needed for my NIR era.Great to see the northern stuff getting good exposure on the site.
  15. Nice job with the MPDs Kieran, they look great and a nice video of them in action.
  16. Superb, great piece of modelling and detailing, you have to remind yourself it is in N scale.
  17. Sorry Kieran, but I missed this thread from last week. Not sure about what is running on NIR these days and whether the above photo is a modern equivalent, but back in 1980,NIR bought 6 new 50 ton,65ft long rail carrying wagons with 2 cantilever cranes on each wagon. They also had 6 rail carrying wagons without cranes that were converted from ex NCC carriage underframes. Both types of wagons were extensively used on the CIE system with CIE GMs,so I would suggest, but I am open to correction,if the wagons in the above photo are linked to the originals, then these wagons would still be owned by NIR.
  18. 7 for the price of 6,if the last one is a freebee I'll have it!Great job Colin,7 power cars in a 5 hour period, impressive, well done.
  19. Great job with the coaches Richie and as said above, the glazing is superb
  20. Dont rush this project Kieran, having 8 MPDs is fantastic and they will be waiting for your return, when you can take your time to ensure you complete them to a good high standard. They look good,it will be nice to see them on Kirley Junction.Enjoy your holiday.
  21. Thanks Kieran, for original photo's,if you put in CIE weedkiller train in advance search,it will take you to the questions and answers page from Jan 13,you will see photo's on that thread of the original train.I still need to find a suitable ladder to complete the beast, but the railways back then just had so much more character than today.
  22. Very neat work Colin, the 80 class profile is starting to take shape.I assume you will be using brass grilles for the power cars.Nice job with the driving trailer,I see you have fitted directional lighting,a nice touch, although the suburban livery was never a favourite of mine, maroon and blue with white strip all the way,I suppose it is what colour you were used to that forms your opinion.Keep the pics and build coming.
  23. 111 arrived with the red front in 1981 and the fronts were then changed to yellow as depicted above a few years later.Great photo's!
