  1. A few babies North of the border,a double headed freight passes the CIE Enterprise
  2. 3 Years of Tara Junction, the updates and cameo scenes have been great and an enjoyable thread to follow.Already the new Mk2 version looks like it is going to be something special, looking forward to your progress with this Noel.
  3. Nice shots Kieran, particularly like the bridge, looks good
  4. Nice job Ivor, the colour looks spot on
  5. Seamus,a black and white photo of D302 can be found in Irish Railways 40 years of change by Colin Boocock, would help with painting. As stated,I think only a few got Black and Tan and I think they were camera shy due to the high cost of film and what enthusiast would want to photo a mere shunter in the early 60s.
  6. No,if it was only the few black and tans that happened to be at Heuston then that would just have been coincidence,it would be more down to when they were available for repaint.Remember, the marshalling yards were very busy in the early 60s and the shunters were heavily used.
  7. Nice job Kieran, looks a nice looking model. The 121 looks great also, nice scene all round
  8. The livery is a thin white stripe from just below the cab roof to just above the door, running in a straight line along the body, the cab front white being as Garfield has described and the non driving end similar to the black version shown. The tan band width is from the bottom up to about half way up the large battery box.A good black and white photo can be found in Irish Railways 40 years of change by Colin Boocock.
  9. Why not go the whole hog and add the tan band at the bottom of the D class, then it would be a prototypical livery that they carried.
  10. Great stuff David, look forward to seeing it. Bring your NIR GM and coaches and really get the tongues wagging!
  11. Superb job David, really fantastic piece of work.Would love to see this in the flesh at the Perth show in June if you are down
  12. Nice pics Kieran, certainly give a flavour of what the show must have been like
  13. Nice video Kieran,Mogul and Jeep look great,a real 60s feel to the action
  14. Really like the viaduct and backscene,it blends in well together.Looks to have the makings of a superb layout
  15. Wonderful shots of a really class looking layout
  16. Nice job,the loco and coach in the second shot look tired,in a nice way!
  17. Your Hunslet's look superb,great weathering,great loco's
  18. Agreed Blaine,in all situations with preservation it all comes down to costs. If you can get money for something that cost nothing, then the temptation is too great to resist, especially if it can help with other projects. The final ITG statement probably summed up the real fate for these locomotives within preservation, cost and a desire to preserve a locomotive that would have very little appeal to the general public. If it is not steam, then the general public have no real interest. At least 2 DHs were restored to find further employment in Sri Lanka, probably a better fate for them than possible vandalism while in storage.
  19. The Mogul looks great Kieran, well worth the hard work. Hope you have a good time at the Bangor show,I'm gutted I could not manage over to meet up again, make sure you post up a few pics
  20. Agreed about all 3 John, but 1 at least could have been saved.Just a pity NIR were not successful when they tried to display one at Lisburn.
  21. [quote It'd be great to get DH1 back for static display - but of course, the ITG and Downpatrick have enough on their plates at the moment. Should never have even been talking like this-the ITG had all 3 for preservation but sold them...
  22. NIR had 3 DH shunters numbered 1-3.They were used over the entire NIR network, when in service, apart from the Bangor line when it was isolated, generally on PW duties. No 2 was mainly found on the GNR section, with No's 1 and 3 on the ex NCC section. I have built 2 of these shunters using Mainline/ Bachmann class 03 shunters as donors.
  23. My layout is still DC controlled, with 2 controllers that allows 4 individual loco's to be controlled individually at any one time. With simple wiring of the 2 main running lines, the goods yard and the carriage sidings and careful isolation of certain track sections, like in the main station,it is possible to get good prototypical running. I have a double track main line,a goods yard,a main line station with carriage sidings and hidden sidings to represent the rest of the network, all in an area no longer than 12ft.The layout can be viewed in the layout section thread under GVS and Adelaide.
  24. Thanks, they look good, one for the future hopefully
  25. Nice big area and a good uncramped track plan gives the makings for a good and interesting layout
