  1. Lovely clean work with the 121 and the 071 has been neatly finished also. The horns on the 071 really help to lift the model, can you tell me where you got them from?
  2. Lovely work,a lot of patience required I would asume!
  3. Superb work just oozing of realism, well done
  4. Sorry to hear of your loss JHB,but what a splendid read of his life,a true fitting tribute to a real railway man.His lasting legacy will be your memories of him, which will bring comfort to you and your family in the times ahead.
  5. To the mods, any chance of putting this thread on as a sticky as there is valuable photos and information that could end up getting lost with the number of questions and answers post that occur on the thread
  6. Superb brown vans Kieran, you have captured the profile of the originals brilliantly.like the added extra of the open door and load.
  7. Agreed, just the same way as finish 4th in your league and get into the champions league,a bit of a contradiction.Champions from every country into a hat with a random draw, only fair as far as I am concerned.
  8. Thanks Garfield,I am sure it will be worth the wait
  9. Anyone any idea when the scheduled November issue of New Irish Lines will be published.
  10. Would look forward to an etch for this coach, keep us posted of progress.
  11. Thanks John, the model I done was based on the coach at Downpatrick to get the accurate profile, did not know there were other types! My teak colour may be a bit bright, but hey ho,I'm happy with it. Great info on all your threads, keep up the good work.
  12. Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated. Thanks JHB for your concise details on liveries from the period,at least I know where to find it for reference.Just one question re the crew coach, what date/years was the coach in red/cream.I have seen photo's of it on the CIE network in those colours, but have seen it in the teak type colour that I painted mine in behind a DH on NIR,which would have been after 1970.
  13. Nice job, they look good, will fit in nicely with that cracker of a layout you are building
  14. Thanks JHB,just corrected my own mistake seconds before your post with the Craven!!The variety of stock back then was something to behold.
  15. Dave-hope I am not being a pest, but if you change the points back with the right hand first to the loco sheds and the left hand second to the container terminal, that gives the container line a bit more length, then coming off that line,if you change the crossover points for a double slip,it would give access to 2 of the container tracks to the headshunt.
  16. Superb photo JHB,the 2nd and 4th coaches look like laminates, the 3rd a park royal, any idea of the 1st nearest the A class? Actually the 4th could be a Craven...
  17. Yes,that what I had in mind. Bos-I can see where you are coming from, the only drawback that I would foresee,is it would impact movement from loco's coming from the loco sheds. With a layout with exhibition in mind, the head shunt allows for the shunting operations with the loco sheds free for other movements on and off the layout, helps keep the viewing public interested.
  18. Nice looking layout with a lot of operating potential. As a suggestion,if you have room, run another point from the head shunt back towards the container terminals, making it 3 roads. For an all freight operation layout, that would add a lot more shunting operations to it.
  19. As the Christmas holidays draw to a close, time for one last running session and a few photo's from the layout. The first photo has been taken from the top of the goods shed and shows the NIR DH shunter in charge of a ballast train, with the cut down open wagons.GM class B181 can be seen leaving the tunnel with the early morning Enterprise comprising of laminate and cravens stock, while sister loco B165 is shunting H vans and bubbles in the head shunt. B182 is taking a breather before marshalling another rake for return to Dundalk later. The next photo is the same scene taken from the other side of the railway fence. The final photo shows some of the various buses that run on the layout, passing the fortified RUC station.
  20. Seamus,if you are referring to the NIR open wagons that were cut down, they were cut down as they were used as a basic ballast wagon where a gang of men just shovelled ballast over the side! I witnessed this operation in the early 70s on many occasions, with one of your favourite wee loco's,the DH in charge. I have cut down a few of these wagons for my layout, will stick a pic up of the operation for you soon. JHB-superb pictures and great info to go with them, get that lot into a book,it would be worth it.
