  2. ROFLMAO Good one Dave BTW, super ingenuity Eoin.
  3. Captain Dara Fitzpatrick. She along with her 3 crew mates are heros. RIP Captain Fitzpatrick (right of picture)
  4. Spare a thought (or even a prayer) for the four crew of rescue 116 and their loved ones. A sad day for the brave men and women who deliver our rescue services 24x365 in all weather.
  5. Thanks Richie. That was an excellent post/thread well researched, don't know how I missed it at the time. Your research has convinced me to go for the earlier '10 Ton GSWR Ballast Brake Plough Van' and paint it Bauxite or Brown which would probably be more appropriate for my B&T era than the later plough in bright PW yellow. Thanks again.
  6. Can somebody please explain to me the different provenance of these two plough vans? The latter one seems to have a longer wheelbase.
  7. Ok, that makes sense. I've noticed many MM items don't show up on eBay.ie but only eBay.co.uk. Never understood the "don't post to Ireland" thing by many UK sellers on items primarily of interest to ROI market! Used Address Pal and formerly Parcel Motel got around that little hurdle.
  8. BTW, just to avoid any confusion I don't have a separate weathering thread, it was just a few posts on the layout thread below: Kingsbridge - Old New Layout (weathering posts): http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/3488-Kingsbridge-Old-New-Layout?p=98006&viewfull=1#post98006
  9. Sanity returning to EGV values? €74 Mar 11 MM5609 IE/IR Mk2 EGV Orange Roof €223 Feb 20 MM5609 IE/IR Mk2 EGV Orange Roof Can't help feeling sorry for the purchaser who paid €223 when another went for a more sensible €74 a few weeks later.
  10. Thanks Richie. Is 0.5mm more suitable for say coach sides and coach roofs, walls, etc? Noel
  11. Question: Which airbrush needle size should I use for detail such as weathering, and which for re-spraying larger areas such as a coach or loco? It came with 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5mm needles and nozzle pair. so far I have only used the 0.2mm. I'm not sure for which applications I should use the other needle sizes? Thanks in anticipation Noel
  12. That's just flipping BRILLIANT! What a fab idea and great pics. What a brilliant idea. Where did the two locos end up 'double headed'? PS: I nearly didn't notice the model the first time I looked at the photos
  13. Question folks, did the ballasts always run with two plough vans, one at each end, or did they some times have one in the rake?
  14. The AEC is a John Hazleton piece which I bought just because I have fond childhood memories of them running out of Bray, and vague memories of being on one to Galway in the 60s, despite perhaps being out of place on our layout. This one will be pushed by a C class kit when I eventually get around to building it.
  15. That's a weathering sample I cannot take credit for, the EGV was done by Graham's resprays from an inexpensive Galway livery EGV I bought which was first resprayed in IE livery and then weathered. Not sure if Seamus did it himself or one of his sub-contractors.
  16. Kingsbridge Terminus is in its early stages with track and platforms laid out but unfinished. Today my 30 year collection of BR outline stock was repositioned to storage, and CIE/IE/IR Irish stock moved in. View down platform 2 as train departs, with EGV stabled in platform 3 nearly 20 years later View down platforms 3 and 4. AEC driving trailer on P4, Craven set behind 141 on P5
  17. Well done Kieran. I love the automatic uncoupler at 14 seconds in, and especially the invisible 'tractor beam' that pulls the coaches back to the mother ship railcar. Impressed with all the native NI stock you build for yourself. Looks really well.
  18. Old thread but seems the right place to ask. On Richie's recommendation I bought a Veda WD-186R airbrush kit, and have been learning how to use it, and as a total novice very happy with it so far. Question: which needle size should I use for weathering, and which for spraying a coach? It came with 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5mm needles and nozzle pair. so far I have only used the 0.2mm. Thanks in anticipation Noel
  19. Hi Guys. As the OP, I apologise if my enthusiasm and enjoyment from recently weathering these coaches acquired over the past few years has caused disharmony. I respect all shades of opinion expressed and suggest we leave it there. It was not my intention to cause disharmony. We are all model train enthusiasts and am sure we would all be good friends face to face, so lets not get too serious about it. I was asked to take close up photos by Fran and Stephen so I spent quite a bit of time doing so yesterday. I think John Mayner summed up where I was coming from quite eloquently below. I will avoid posting on these models again Lets be modelling pals Good night all
  20. Like the active Portlaoise platform shot.
  21. Yes have BR shark plough van ready for repainting to yellow as there are no Irish RTR plough vans!
  22. Good news. Looking forward to putting them on the layout next month behind a double header of 141s.
  23. Yes that's interesting John, 075 having survived the Buttevant rail crash, and 086 the Charleville Junction crash. A credit to GM and Inchicore personnel who maintained her that she is still in service today after 40 years. 40 years is some achievement, a shame the mk3 rakes only saw 25 years service and were withdrawn 15 years before their BR counter parts. The black'n'silver was not my favourite livery, the newer freight grey in the OP's post has grown on me. Photo from Doc Brown's travel web site. 24. Thanks JB. You are an encyclopaedia of useful information. Btw, I will be putting only one white strip on it as per 1960s Thanks for tip David re Halfords primer.
