  5. I have three of his brake vans, one oxide red and two in grey. Love them, perfect for my era, they have been joined by JM designs latest model IFM 20 ton version in grey IFM 20 ton version in oxide red JM Design 20 ton Version CIE grey. Finer resolution on correct chassis instead of dapol donor I still haven't got around to a brass SSM kit I bought about 6 years ago! These specialist producers have been excellent source for models for my era. Thank you.
  6. Indeed, in the real world If heuston was connected directly to dart or metro, a train would be quicker than car, but for work car is 1hr faster to get to cork. By the time one gets to heuston by car or Luas a car would be half way to cork on the motorway. A pity but a great shame the recent metro plans didn’t link heuston with dart underground or metro. Sadky tge The motorways are better and better food on route.
  7. Thanks Fran, that is welcome news. Will it be possible for existing customers who own 42ft wagons to buy accessory packs 'to eliminate squeaking and improve running and rolling resistance' such as brass bearings and coupling mechanisms to retro fit into the existing 42ft container flat wagons?

  11. The bit I saw he seemed glowingly positive about the Deltic and full of praise. Seems strange to review models on a train set layout on attic bedroom carpet. Looking forward to my deltic which should be arriving this week.

Kadee NEM No 18s but you will have to superglue them to the underside of the NEM pockets rather than plug them in, if you wish to have them at the correct heights for interoperability with other Kadee fitted stock and if you wish to use kadee uncoupling magnets. I did this with the IRM ballast and cement wagons no problem as they share the same chassis as the mags and the ploughs. There was an argument just to correct the height at each end of a rake using the NEM pockets for the wagons within a rake, but I could not stomach the lack of interoperability. Some pics below of Ballasts with Kadee no 18s fitted Correct height below. Tongs of NEM super glued to underside of NEM pocket is perfect height for Kadee matching its specified height gauge.
  13. Great to sea such an overwhelmingly positive customer response to AS's Deltic arriving these past few days. Respect, AS entered the Lions den with a Roar. Congrats on a successful business expansion. Better than German standards of model engineering but at UK model prices (ie Hornby/Bachmann).   16. Big day for Accurascale tomorrow when the first Deltics arrive with UK customers. The UK market has not yet experienced an IRM/AS quality locomotive spec yet, tomorrow will be a seismic day confirming AS excellent credentials in the UK market. There may be ruffled feathers at Bachmann and Hornby. I'm sure as the percieved Irish upstarts who said 'why not' succeeded beyond anybodies expectations. Looking forward to reading plaudits and glowing feedback on RMweb tomorrow. It all started here with the humble Irish Ballast wagon. Celtic warriors breaking the mould, and changing ideas about what's possible with models. Well done guys.

  20. Fair comment, and glad NIR modellers will enjoy them, they were just never part of my personal nostalgia memory of Irish trains, so not required for my modelling scene. I just never actually saw those coaches running in ROI prob because most of the rail travel in my life time was was on exGSR lines south of Athlone. Been on DD to Belfast twice, but that's about the extent of my exposure to exGNR, exUTA, NIR scene. I'm retired now so plenty of time for patience. All in good time.
  21. Agree with the other customers above, it would be wonderful to have IRM/AS level of specification and superb features for Irish coaches in Irish liveries (ie GSWR, MGWR, CIE, IR/IE). The UK coaches you have announced do look absolutely stunning with their detailing, features such as close coupling, bogies, touching corridors, and features such as lighting, etc. Its not a criticism just a natural observation that NI/NIR is a limited market. I still harbour hopes that one day CIE laminates or Park Royals may emanate from your stable. Happy to wait for the right models.

  25. Other ways: Wind, pumped storage, hydro, solar, the Celtic Interconnector importing 700MW from french Nuclear grid. Ireland varies between 40% and 60% wind for the grid these days, with a target of between 70-80% by 2030. Alas data centres are a fly in the ointment with possible future legislation to force them to generate or buy their own CO2 free juice. Data centres are not big employers anyway, but earn significant revenue. From 2030 sales of new fossil cars including hybrids are being banned in Ireland with 2040 the target date for use of old ICE stock. Only time will tell how all this pans out. Alt Energy is the new business of opportunity. And we led the way with DCC In time Ireland will be forced by EU to electrify the railways and by the various international accords we have already signed up to (eg Paris). Wonder if we'll end up with a 3rd rail, or overhead gantry on the main intercity lines. Irish National Grid on a normal wind day.
