  5. Thanks Mike for positive comments about my article on the 4-6-2Ts of the Lough Swillynin the latest Backtrack. The model.of No 12 is based on the High Legh Railway in Knutsford. The owner only passed away earlier this year and the future was still.uncertain when I visited this line in September 2021
  6. Catching up on this with some comments. This loco is built for 7 and a quarter inch. Took over 20 years to build and the owner passed away only months after completion. The issue of colour of the Swilly engines is difficult. The notes of HS Irvine who lived in Derry in the last years have been useful. On the cover of my new Lough Swilly book I have used a colour painting with permission from Lord O'Neill showing both black and green liberties. Backtrack has just published ny article on the Swilly Pacific tanks with a stunning colour photo of Numbet 15 in the black livery from 1953!
  7. The staff at that miniature railway told me it is too powerful to use in regular service! Has to be seen to be believed

  10. That is the point indeed as NI under the protocol is still inside the EU. So no.additional fees should be changed sending stuff to the EU
  11. Only yesterday our railway group had 2 items posted in NI to Germany and Spain returned due to.unpaid EU duties. Have took them.back to the Post Office this morning which apologised and tells us that outside Ireland people are completely ignorant of the NI Protocol. Have sent more new books out yesterday so shall see what happens!

  17. The HMRS sent me a pile of photos yesterday of Irish stuff to sort out for another project. Will sift through this later today and check my own DNGR stuff for information There was a Two Part article on the DNGR earlier this year in Railway Bylines.
  18. Correct Michael the Dutch Baltic tanks were an attractive and successful design. Thanks to input from the BCDR their Baltic tanks based in this design were as much use as a condom machine in a nunnery! The most successful Baltic tanks in the British Isles were possibly the CDR Class 4 locos such as Erne sadly lost in 1968?
  19. Beyer Peacock built very similar Baltic tank locos for the Dutch State Railways. They were more successful as they were designed minus any interference by the staff in Manchester!
  20. CDR 155vwas one of three tranship wagons converted to other things bu the 1930s Only 155 appeared to receive this treatment and survive until closure. Thanks
  21. Scarce but a very good book ahead of it's time!
  22. 155 a rare beast built in 1900 by Oldbury as a Covered Tranship wagon/van Appears to be a one off showing the patched up repair job often used towards the end at Stranorlsr.
  23. 84 had been converted to a Belpaire fitted boiler in September 1947. The UG Class had started to arrive in February 1948.
  24. The Bluebell.updated their website recently meaning that you have more work to do to track down photos of the locations you are looking for in particular. Going through the CDR stuff I had a similar problem where some photos appeared under a different name/title etc!
