  1. Brilliant Kieran, fantastic steamers and spectacular layout.
  2. A complete shock and everybody is stunned. Our thoughts and prayers must be with his family. A great man and a great player, may he rest in peace.
  3. A wonderful layout that oodles atmosphere.
  4. Top drawer stuff Richie, pure art.
  5. Fantastic layout, they seem to be running well after the clean Kirley. I love the UTA dmu, the pocket wagons, and the steamer with the short goods. Great atmosphere and scenery. Would you recommend a particular cleaning agent or method for the track after carrying out work with glue etc? Thanks, Tommy.
  6. A small layout for the youngest son and adding to that as time goes by. A run by Lima 201 and MK III push/pull set.
  7. Todays returning R.P.S.I diesel special passing over the Broadlough Estuary at Wicklow, having just crossed the down 17.42 service to Wexford.
  8. Welcome Ewan you have made a great choice and that is a fantastic looking loco in the form of 078 to start the collection. Good luck with the new layout Shannarch West and the members on here will provide great encouragement and top rate advice whenever you need it.
  9. Noel I though the same but when you consider the amount of time and effort that was needed and the fact that he had to buy the kit and the chassis, then the price is okay I think? I built my own one of these recently and it takes time to paint etc (great fun), and my effort is not a patch on this one. If I had the dosh I would be very tempted, any idea when Mr. Murphy's yanks will be available?
  10. Anyone spot this one? https://www.donedeal.ie/hobbies-for-sale/model-train/13315868
  11. Have to agree...this 'rivet counting' approach to scale speed perfection can be taken too far and at the end of the day we have to keep some perspective.
  12. Great vid John, interesting push/pull service as alternative to purely dmu trains. Am I right in thinking that those carriages are refurbished ex BR Mk IIs? Regards, Tommy
  13. At over 180 tonnes per three carriage train, 100mph capability I don't think you can realistically compare the 22k train to a tram Noel. They may not be of the same interest to railway enthusiasts (maybe they are to some), but they are comfortable and versatile and seem to be the way of the future on many modern railways across the world. I think they are very nice looking trains myself even though I would rather see the loco hauled trains too but that is progress I suppose!
  14. Fab looking trains Kirley, lovely livery schemes from that era.
  15. Thanks for the info John it certainly is some suburban and outer suburban system operating out of London. Vast network of suburban lines and a huge commuter belt serving millions of people on a daily basis. I would imagine it is a lucrative part of the network for TOCs today as there are a huge amount of passengers and very healthy revenue levels? Would that be a fair assessment or are their less lucrative or loss making routes contained within the greater London rail network?
  16. Just caught a 2900 class operating the early afternoon Dublin Connolly to Rosslare service, passing the bird sanctuary adjacent to Newcastle Station (closed, March 1964). A peaceful place to enjoy a walk and spot the odd passing train, not to forget the many light aircraft movements in and out of Newcastle Airfield which is also close to this location.
  17. Good video here showing the challenges faced by BR and the N.S.E. regions prior, and during the privatisation phase of the railways in the UK. Lots of old EMU stock at the time and lots of problems with delays. Great efforts by staff and genuine railway people in keeping the trains running. I don't know if privatisation improved things or not? There was a lot of investment in new trains etc from the 1990s and that would have had to happen either way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sULj6UpGAyU
  18. Excellent production of a top rate GV.
  19. As promised a short video of the loco on a short goods train.
  20. A huge congratulations to everyone involved in this project, the finished product is a superb model.
  21. Thanks lads for the comments and for having a look, a few more shots and I will do a short vid soon.

    SF C Class

I had ordered a C class from John at Silver Fox, it arrived at the end of June and I began working on it. I wanted to paint her in the black/white livery to represent this class on their occasional trips down to Shelton with the old loose coupled fert wagons in the early 1970s. My skills are are very, very basic and the paint job is poor enough but I have derived great pleasure out of this kit and I suppose I will improve at this stuff...some day! When I ordered it I also requested a decent chassis and the one supplied is a hornby and is weighted heavily so gives great traction. I have tried it out briefly and will post a few more pics and a vid shortly. Thanks for looking.
  23. Thanks for the interest, both locos are now provisionally sold. Tommy.
  24. Bachmann Class 37 in BR freight livery in great cond running on DC and DCC ready, also Bachmann Class 25 BR blue DCC chipped in great cond. No original boxes but will be shipped securely in suitable Bachmann boxes. Both lovely models in great cond and beautiful smooth runners, surplus and just used for display at present. Great bargain - Class 37 60Euro, Class 25 65 Euro, the pair 115e.
