  1. Whatever about the VAT, the first part of that statement still stands. Failure to display the euro sale price of goods is illegal. I doubt the traders travelling from the UK are mere hobbyists... the least they could do is show their potential customers some respect by taking the guesswork out of the equation and displaying the cost of their wares in the local currency. It's not a lot to ask, in fairness, and it's the only real downside to what is a very well organised event.* *Edit: And I should point out, the issue is with the individual traders and not the organisers.
  2. Care to explain the logic there? The event is taking place on Irish soil, so UK law doesn't apply. The only instance where it possibly might was if the event was held in the grounds of the British Embassy!
  3. Traders are legally obliged to display retail prices in euro: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/consumer_affairs/consumer_protection/pricing/price_display_of_goods_and_services.html
  4. Just came across this on YouTube... a fantastic recording of a Lancaster crew talking during a bombing run over Germany. It'll make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. The one thing that struck me was how they remained cool throughout, even when an enemy aircraft engaged them...
  5. Different kettle of fish, in fairness... a single 201 in the centre of a rake of Mk4s with a DVT at either end makes no sense.
  6. Three non-passenger carrying vehicles in the consist? No point in that. Shunting? Cameras? What!?!? This thread is now not just off-topic, but also utterly bizarre.
  7. Control car/DVT... same thing. As has been said already, they're generator vans and don't provide tractive power. In theory, they could be fitted with an engine and traction motors in future and used in pairs.
  8. This is what you're referring to, right? (Photo: Dawgs via Wikipedia. Creative Commons licence.)
  9. Of course the 201s are more powerful than the Mk4 DVTs, which are completely unpowered. Their engines are for train lighting, not traction. Also can we tray and keep this discussion from staying off-topic? Thanks.
  10. Picked up 203 'River Corrib' during the sale... 201s are outside the era I focus on, but I couldn't resist!
  11. To clarify: The prototype's bogie had problems. The model offered for sale is in 'as new' condition.
  12. Just a reminder not to delve further into political chatter, as it's a topic of discussion which isn't allowed here. Cheers!
  13. The Guardian published an interesting photo feature on dazzle ships in its online edition yesterday: http://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/gallery/2015/may/29/dazzle-painting-a-history-of-nautical-camouflage
  14. Ys and Ns? Are you confusing Jinties with Woolwich Moguls? The NCC Class Y were two LMS 3F (Jinty) locos regauged to to 5ft 3in. The N class was the UK designation for the Woolwich Moguls, a type also used here in Ireland, where they were designated K1. Two very different animals...
  15. I'd be interested to see these photos, too, JB... it was a fascinating little line.
  16. I put this together quickly, using the edge of the table as a guide to show that the camera isn't distorting the image with some sort of wide angle or fisheye effect. I'm sorry to report that the running plate is definitely warped (highlighted in red above). As it is, it's going to cause problems when you construct the frames as the body won't sit right on them and the wheels won't line up with the splashers. To fix it, you're going to have to remove the running plate from the rest of the body to try and flatten it, although I'm not sure if it'll be possible to fix the warping completely...
  17. Is it just me or is the running plate bent out of shape? If it is, you could be looking at having to disassemble the body in order to sort it out...
  18. That MIR 80 class kit is a rarity now. I'd be surprised if it doesn't sell.
  19. Folks, I'm closing this thread... a person is entitled to own as much or as little stock as they want without others asking what the point of it all is. It's their business.
  20. Some questions relating to 'what if...' scenarios regarding closed lines have been moved to the more appropriate 'The Official Irish Might Have Beens...' thread: http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/4534-The-Official-Irish-Might-Have-Beens-Thread/page9
  21. Basically, making them look presentable for passers-by when the cycleway opens. Glenderg is submitting a tender and ordering industrial quantities of plasticard, I believe...
