  1. A friend of mine does the printing at an MOD location - he got sent to an exhibition today and saw this 3-D printed, gold plated example on the Canon stand. I understand it to be a copy of some famous cup, complete with dents, scratches and nicks.
  2. Cellulose can be difficult to apply over some non-cellulose finishes, too.
  3. They regard trains in general, and passengers in particular, as a nuisance.
  4. There's often problems with them not having valid tickets.
  5. I went once, on a Sunday, having won some free tickets - it was an ordeal and I doubt I'll do it again soon. Stafford is on at the start of February and is a lot more civilised.
  6. I have asked for advice from some tame geeks and got this - http://iphonephotographyschool.com/iphone-photos-upside-down/

  9. I'm still running an Atari 1040 STF - with a massive 20 Meg hard-drive.
  10. We had a Commodore Pet in 1978. The first thing I ever used with a screen - all teletypes before that.
  11. They take them seriously over here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-34656308 .
  12. As I'm sure you know, the music is extremely important in horror flicks - this might be of interest - http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/0/24083243 - I heard a programme about this recently, but I just can't find it now...
  13. Nicely spooky. The music works well, too.
  14. Spray cans don't always have paint in - http://www.sundayworld.com/news/courts/girl-14-sprayed-iarnrod-eireann-inspector-in-the-eyes-with-deodorant . That's the big problem with public transport, you have to let the public on....
  15. Those were the days. And the travelling post offices were like the stationary ones, you could get bacon, butter and a pint, as well...
  16. Graffiti is an odd thing - graffiti often attracts more graffiti. Those who know Stoke on Trent will be familiar with the A500 (D Road) that runs through it - it's been there for forty years in what is a fairly run-down city - I noticed recently that there is virtually no graffiti anywhere along it, yet it is the sort of place that you might expect lots. I once repainted a birdwatching hide that was plastered with graffiti - there was a really good bit in the centre of one wall and we painted round it and left it there. We got lots of criticism for doing that, but my prediction that there would be less graffiti as a result was true - there was hardly any new graffiti for many months afterwards. I'm sure that it would have been revandalised a lot quicker without our little token gesture.
  17. Some action on the scourge of graffiti - http://www.herald.ie/news/courts/train-graffiti-plan-was-part-of-pals-art-project-34210699.html
  18. Iron Road seems to be the more general description in most languages - chemin de fer, eisenbahn, jarnvag, etc - 'railway' seems to be peculiarly English. I do wonder if they were just Googling "Railway of Iran" for a nice picture and just clicked without looking when "Railways of Ireland" was suggested as they got to typing the "Ir"..?
  19. Genius! Perhaps also QuailRail, taking shooting parties to the Western desolate regions. FlailRail, controlling the line side growth. And DailRail, an offshoot of the Luas to Leinster House? The JailRail siding to Port Laoise Prison. And, of course, SailRail got there already...
