  1. Keep her on-side - at all costs.
  2. I was going to suggest a video of the encounter...
  3. Bridge across the stairwell - spiral down to 'civilisation'..?
  4. Will the transit of the stairwell be visible from below? That could be a great feature..
  5. I spent many a night in Lambe's at Ballybrophy surrounded by chaps in dustcoats whose pints were already waiting on the bar when they burst in through the door. On occasion, we would be plunged into total darkness when 'a certain vehicle' would announce it's arrival with a toot of the horn as they came over the bridge. As long as they 'didn't see what was going on', then it could go on. Julia would flick the main switch in a few milliseconds and the skill was to remember where your pint was in the darkness. The darkness really was total - it could have been fifteen miles to the nearest street lamp back then..
  6. You will have to whack the volume right up to hear anything - but, for God's sake, also remember to turn it back down again..!

That's fine. Is that another on the right, on the other side of the track..?
  12. It'll end in screams...
  13. This series of five fifteen-minute talks - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0124rys - might be of some interest to the Continental types on here...
  14. Good job, there. Wills kits are bastards to make - but the end product is excellent*. I made the Water Mill for someone and didn't realise what was involved until I opened the box. The beauty of them, though, is that it is so easy to vary them, put the windows anywhere you like, change the position of doors and even the size of the finished thing. Hard work, but well worth the effort. *I wonder if a career in advertising beckons..? + Jackdaw cowls for an 'Irish Look'..?
  15. Great stuff. Two nice colour shots of Ballybrophy box, too..
  16. Great stuff. On the ordering page - http://www.irishfreightmodels.com/index.php/ordering - it does say that phone orders can be accepted, but I don't see a number anywhere. Might be useful..

Any chance of a picture of one? And maybe some approximate dimensions. No rush, when you're passing..
  18. Virgin starts court action - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19402133 - after offer to run it free of subsidy whilst it's reviewed is rejected by the Government.
  19. Great find.
  20. We talked about guards from here on for a bit - http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/283-My-new-loft-layout?p=5003&viewfull=1#post5003
  21. Do things run OK over that point at the right-hand side in the second picture? The one that sends the outer track over the crossing. It looks a little bit 'steppy' at the join in the baseboard, where the point meets the cross-over. Maybe it's just the angle of the photo...
  22. It's probably quite easy to do - driving different trailers, etc.. There used to be a light-beam device* on the approach to the Mountrath Road bridge in Portlaoise that lit up a sign on the bridge if you were high enough to break the beam. I'm not sure if it's still there. The one good thing about that bridge is that it's not square to the road, thus softening the blow a bit, and the angle tends to roll things away from the oncoming traffic, as in the picture above, it would be even more exciting if it was the other way.. There's even a video on YouTube of a chap hitting a bridge after forgetting to lower the tipper body.. *This - https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=portlaoise&hl=en&ll=53.033776,-7.304114&spn=0.00135,0.002411&hnear=Portlaoise,+County+Laois,+Ireland&t=h&z=19&layer=c&cbll=53.033774,-7.303907&panoid=HQyY3gXRsyliIHt9-zFiOg&cbp=12,200.3,,1,-11.06 - doesn't look how I remember it, maybe they've installed a new one, but there doesn't seem to be the lit sign on the bridge** now.. **Ah, there it is - https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=portlaoise&hl=en&ll=53.033802,-7.305688&spn=0.00135,0.002411&hnear=Portlaoise,+County+Laois,+Ireland&t=h&layer=c&cbll=53.033806,-7.305836&panoid=gJZTOgQQnF-Vr3b8yy6zKw&cbp=12,209.96,,2,-3.85&z=19 - before you get to the bridge..

Other level-crossing-related signage is detailed at the bottom of this - http://www.irishrail.ie/media/LevelCrossingweblores1.pdf
  24. I don't want to complicate issues more than they already are, but won't the Seep / Peco type point motors work on either AC or DC? http://www.gaugemaster.com/instructions/pm2.pdf If you want to use a capacitor discharge device to promote reliable switching, then, of course, DC would be necessary.
