  1. Despite a painful bout of sciatica in my left hip I am still braving the undersides of my baseboards connecting the point motors to newly installed toggle switches. The shed is a mess of cable, tools and stripped wire ends. I hope to complete the wiring completely by the close of the weekend. Whats the next thing I should do - ballasting?
  2. I have to really 'eat my hat' here guys. I am currently having the time of my life watching a 00 'GNRi U Class' and 'GNRi UG Class' locos with GNRi and Irish Rail wagons run around my shed. Its amazing!
  3. It seems like nothing is happening on 'Derry Road Runabout' but I have been fitting point motors, wiring CDU, buying mini toggle switches and now wiring under the baseboards. Hard work lying on your back looking up but I'll get there. The locos are tested daily and run around the layout with no hesitation. Hopefully, the weekend will see the points are wired and switching well.
  4. Look forward to seeing 'Castlederg' and meeting you Andy.

  6. It was a fantastic layout. I gave my vote to Killagen since it was its last time out before retiring to a new owner!
  7. Just back from show, really enjoyed it. Had the privilege of getting behind the scenes of Gerrys amazing N-gauge layout 'Llanuwchllyn' and seeing Killagen on its last ever outing. As always it was nice to speak to Kieran, Gerry and Dave. Also, had a very friendly chat with Ian at Killagen. Congratulations to the organisers and thank you to the modellers for putting all the time and effort to be there. Tony
  8. I’m so sorry, just checked the flyer in my wallet-I’ll be there!
  9. Anybody know what time the Belfast show ends on Sunday - I'll be in the area and will call before I head for home.
  10. Lovely piece of work, must be a real pleasure working in a larger scale. Not only is it easier on the eye but you can actually see the quality of craftsmanship.
  11. Did you apply the paint before ballasting and was it handprinted with brush? A tedious job but with great results.
  12. Love the ground cover in the yard, what did you paint the rails with - very authentic!
  13. I've learned a lot from making a hasty entrance into layout planning - I started three times and failed three times. The first thing to get into your head is 'what way you see your finished layout' then work back. I went from a maize of complicated paintwork to a simple twin track loop with sidings and a fiddle yard. This allows for long flowing trains of goods wagons, lots of storage and an illusion of distance from A to B. My shed measures 3m x1.7m and my baseboards are a sensible 350mm wide. I have 15 points in total and am fitting point motors to 10 of them at the moment. I've learned to do a little each day, or when I have time and now I enjoy it more than ever. Be patient, think things through and listen to advice - sometimes, I didn't and it cost me. Good luck
  14. I'll be there but I'll miss Enniskillen on 29th Sept
  15. Slowly adding point motors, never easy on your own - lying on your back trying to work above your head!
  16. Backscene board at door entrance complete and ready for grey primer
  17. A beautiful piece of craftsmanship, you must be so proud of yourself. Is it a scratch built model and if so what materials were used, if you don't mind me asking.
  18. Problem solved by an absolute whizz of a friend of mine, thanks
  19. Has anyone wired these components on their layout. I’m just haven’t a clue. Can you help?
  20. Thanks David, things are falling into place nicely
  21. Plywood fitted today for 12” backscene and little ply shelf in place for controller and switches.
