Warbonnet Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Like Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern are painting up some of their new locos in heritage schemes to pay tribute to railroads it took over in the past, or that they can trace their lineage back to. Unlike UP, who used 'the spirit' of its former railroads to inspire fancy fantasy paint jobs, NS is going for true replications. Rich, Pretty sure you're correct Rich, Anjin brass did the LMS locos and do Overland diesels. The LMS locos are a lovely piece of kit, but have their problems, particularly with going around corners. The finish is second to none though, and something plastic cannot get near. Here's a pic of my one, the LMS twins are probably my fave British diesel. Fancy getting some JLTRT O gauge ones when the money starts flowing again. Have been contemplating the Dapol/Hattons OO version but am going to hold off until the Bachmann one comes out so I can have a running pair and the brass loco can live in the cabinet. Quote

The way I look at it is if I buy one loco, I need to buy at least one more to run in pairs, then a load of freight cars to go behind it. I am already staring at present day UP, NS, BNSF,80's Santa Fe and 60's SP on the shelf next to me. And then there's the British stuff! Quote

Yep, the Gevo's are being delivered to NS in primer and they paint them up themselves. The ACe's will be painted by the manufacturer when they're completed and delivered directly. Quote

I have a bit of a fondness for the Baltimore and Ohio Railway myself. If it's a loco, I can usually get it cheaper in the states, including shipping and in the case of sound fitted, cheaper than the UK despite the risk of customs and P&P. I usually use http://www.modeltrainstuff.com or http://www.trainworld.com for the states. There is a good shop in the UK called Model Junction http://www.modeljunction.info and I buy a lot of freight cars etc from there. I have bought some locos there too, for instance they have a good sale on non sound Atlas locos at the moment, and I've snapped up a few. They even test them before posting them out and give you a guarantee saying so. Postage can be a bit pricey though, but great service and website. The signal box http://www.thesignalbox.co.uk also carries some yank stuff, and I've bought some rolling stock from them too. Quote
