Warbonnet Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Hi lads, Went into Marks on Hawkins street for a DCC chip and a chinwag and came out with the new Bachmann 4F. Beautiful loco with great detail and I'm sure she'll be a sweet runner. I couldn't leave it there for the price as it was only €90 which was around €7 cheaper than Hattons when you factor in postage (and there's no week long wait!) Well done Marks, great value and service as per usual! Some pics of the beast... Quote
minister_for_hardship Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 For far off a MGWR 'cattle engine' is the 4F dimensionally? Quote
Warbonnet Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 For far off a MGWR 'cattle engine' is the 4F dimensionally? I haven't a notion. Mine will be staying BR! Ripe for bashing into something Irish I guess considering all the 0-6-0 tender locos we had? Quote
heirflick Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 shes a beauty fran! have one that will be turned into an irish loco when i get the time! Quote
Dave Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 That's a little gem of a loco. Good find Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 It is a brilliant model, I can't wait to get the LMS version. Quote
jhb171achill Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 You could make a passable loco of GNR, NCC or GS (group) origin, even by sticking an appropriate cab on it.... yes, the MGWR example would be good... Inchicore cab and chimney would go a long way towards recreating a decent replica. Quote
Glenderg Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 As jhb says, swap out the chimney and dome, and i think you have an irish prototype without too much effort. Quote
Mayner Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 The Bachmann 3F is also worth looking at very close to the NCC 0-6-0s and a good basis for the more modern GSWR & DSER types & 461. http://www.ehattons.com/52551/Bachmann_Branchline_31_627A_Class_3F_0_6_0_3709_in_LMS_black/StockDetail.aspx The main draw back with a rtr conversion is that apart from the Northern Companies and DSER few locos had a straight running plate like the 3 or 4F, most Southern locos either had squiggly or raised running plates which are difficult to model and a major part of the character of the Irish locos.
