A postman on his morning run had a lucky escape today when his delivery van was struck by struck by a train at a level crossing...

At least there was no fatalities with this one but again highlights the dangers of accommodation crossings, when road and rail vehicles cross paths there is bound to be collisions at one time or another.

I live a few miles from where this happened - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hixon_rail_crash - a 200 ton transformer hit by a train doing 75mph.

 

 

Thirty years later they replaced the crossing with a bridge.

 

I've never been a fan of level crossings - at least, not on high-speed lines.

Had it happened exactly one hour earlier then it would have been a different story-he would have been one unlucky postman-as the 201 hauled IWT liner would have had a different effect on the outcome......

yes indeed....the liner is not a train to stop in a hurry. the Gods were on his side that day!
