Hi Kieran. Nice photos as ever. Are the interiors of the mk4 sets getting an overhaul? Noel

Hi Noel. The interiors are getting a deep clean of the existing moquette etc, with any damaged ones replaced and plug sockets installed in standard class. No plans as yet to do a full refurb on them as far as I know

Excellent research and photos. Did the line cross the Shannon at Portumna or terminate on the east bank? Doesn't look like it from Sat images, but if yes, did it cross the Shannon using the current iconic road bridge which looks more like railway engineering than a road structure? There is an old disused commercial harbour on the east bank just 350m north of the current road bridge (i.e. Munster Harbour) which may have connected the railway with commercial Shannon traffic. Waterways Ireland now use it as a storage depot for hardware, buoys, pontoons, etc.

I do agree that the road bridge is very railway looking! But the railway terminated on the east side of the river bank.

Good evening all,

On Saturday I took a trip up to Northern Ireland in connection with the Irish Transport Heritage Bus Rally at Cultra. This was my first time in Northern Ireland since August 2007 - and things have changed a lot! No more 80-class and 450-class labouring away around Belfast!

Friday morning was interesting at Portlaoise with the 0825 Charleville - Galway Belmond GH Spl. and a Limerick to Inchicore Wagon transfer passing the town. On Thursday evening I took a ramble from Portlaoise to Nenagh via Limerick Jct. and Ballybrophy.

Morning folks,

Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th April 2017:

Photos from this weekend include images of the Belmond Grand Hibernian going down the Dublin & South Eastern Railway line as far as Gorey, where it stabled on Saturday night. The normal Saturday route to Belfast wasn't available due to engineering works. To start off the weekend I dropped into Rosskelton to see the ballast cleaning works ongoing.

Tuesday 2nd May 2017:

A ramble around the network today with a guest from the UK. Photos come from:

- Thurles.

- Ossory Road.

- Busaras

- The Point

Evening folks,

Wednesday 3rd May 2017:

Another ramble today, this time heading to Tralee, Killarney and Cork. Locations include:

- Portlaoise

- Mallow

- Tralee

- Killarney (includes Railtours Ireland charter from Cobh to Killarney).

- Cork.

- Rathmore (to see the Belmond Grand Hibernian pass through).

Plans to go down the Cobh line had to be abandoned due to a signal failure at Myrtlehill Level Crossing outside Cork at 1600. Then the Tralee line service was badly delayed due to another signal failure at Rathmore just as I arrived there on the 1725 Mallow - Tralee!

Just the one from me today. Nice to see an 071 on a train of Mark IIIs again :) 081 on the Belmond

That's a superbly framed shot. The grey roofs on the mk3's and the light almost give the impression the loco and rake are the same livery.

Nice shots Neil. Last time I was on the Gospel Oak to Barking it was a 150 in Silverlink livery. Gospel Oak is a nice place to watch cross London freight too.

Great pics!

Afternoon all,

I ventured over to Cush in Co. Kildare this morning to photograph 078 hauling the Belmond Grand Hibernian from Connolly to Waterford. The Sunday and Monday trips to/from Waterford are now scheduled to be hauled by an 071 Class locomotive rather than the dedicated Belmond liveried 216 due to operational issues at Dundalk where the train is stabled at on Saturday night.

This mornings outing also has images from the Barrow Bridge at Monastervin and Rosskelton in Co. Laois.
