thewanderer Posted May 31, 2021 Author Posted May 31, 2021 Last Friday, the Disney movie Disenchanted, which is on location filming in Ireland at the moment rolled into Dundalk Station for the shooting of a railway station scene. Iarnrod Eireann supplied 4ICR 22015 which was in Connolly Valeting Plant undergoing refurbishment and was scheduled to be finished in time for the shoot on Friday 28th May. After prepping the train at Connolly the set was transferred to Dundalk on Thursday afternoon for the filming on Friday, which took most of the day to complete with actor Patrick Dempsey plus extras in attendance. Dundalk Station was redressed as the fictional Monroeville Station in New York. Click https://bit.ly/3vQsekJ to view the images of the train in its modified guise. thewanderer Posted June 8, 2021 Author Posted June 8, 2021 Latest update: Tuesday 8th June 2021: Pictures from various locations between Clonnydonnin and Athlone, the main highlight being the IWT Liner which is shortly to "be suspended until further notice" due to Dublin Port Company refusing permission for the train to operate into the Common User Container terminal due to congestion issues. It is estimated that the suspension will add 120+ trucks each week to the Dublin - Ballina road. The final liner is scheduled to operate on Thursday 10th June. Their site is pretty much built on top of Banagher rail yard - you can the alignment taking off from the back of the current business site. Totally agree re Silverline - the father in law,has a boat on the Shannon - we've tied up there many a time. Quote

Indeed I have admired Silverline for a while but have been a loyal Emerald Star customer until this year, the prices were crazy. Silverline offerings were far more competitive and I got a 12 night deal at a cheaper price than a 7 night offering from Emerald Star! Originally supposed to go last May on the Silver Ocean but had to cancel that due to a family illness (and lockdown did drag on well into May), rebooked for end of August and as the Ocean wasn't available we are now on the Silver Shadow. However their diesel prices leave a lot be desired! Currently charging 1.65 per litre! ES in Portumna (and I assume Carrick) are only charging 1.40 which is very good. 1 Quote

Morgan and Barbara run a great business with quality boats. ESL now Le Boat seem to rent to party groups like 'stags' and 'hens' who can hack the boats, where as SL just won't, hence their boats are semi-private spec and well looked after by both clients and the operator. Spent some happy years based at Silverstone many years ago. The Shannon Holiday experience has been the great undiscovered treasure by so many Irish, whereas the continentals have enjoyed it for 50 years. Covid seems to have open Irish eyes to what's on our own doorstep without the need to endure airport hell to get to. Just 2hr drive from the east coast, to get to another world, to another time, escape to an amazing experience. 1 Quote

I can only really recall passing one ESL boat which would you call a "party boat" in all my time hiring, often chatted to plenty of families / couples on ESL boats while moored up or passing through locks. But would agree SL is a far better spec especially on their premium boats. 1 Quote
