BosKonay Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Looks like Greystones, probably mid to late eighties? Quote
irishthump Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 Looks like Greystones, probably mid to late eighties? Cheers, Bos! Did'nt think you would get that sort of mix of liveries in the one rake! Quote
Noel Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Lads, Came across this picture on geography.ie.... I love the mix of coaching stock! I wonder can anyone put a rough date on this pic? Great photo. What a difference the tippex and white logo made. It's definitely Greystones. Agree with the dating based on the cars. Quote
irishthump Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 Agree with the dating based on the cars. I wouldn't put much stock in that... That could be present day down there! Quote
irishthump Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 Great photo. What a difference the tippex and white logo made. Am I right in saying the tippex and logo was applied straight over the Supertrain livery? Quote
Warbonnet Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Tippex came in when IR was formed in 1987. So around there or maybe 88/89. Love the rust free fiat 127! Quote

irishthump Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 The loco or the car? Both. And they'd strip the copper out of the loco's generator too..... Quote
Eiretrains Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 The date for all Geograph images is displayed on the original webpage, picture by 'Albert Bridge', Thursday, 9 June, 1988. See the original photo link with details below the image - handy to know! http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3071995 Quote

That looks like my first car: a Fiat 127 L 2-door in Pippen Red 462 DZL a 1981 model. The other car is a Ford Fiesta of similar vintage. Quote
iarnrod Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Am I right in saying the tippex and logo was applied straight over the Supertrain livery? When IR was formed in mid 1987, the Tippex livery was initially applied over the original C.I.E. orange/tan until such time as the coaches were due for an overhaul/repaint when they received the brighter IR orange Tippex livery. Mk3 coaches were prioritised to get Tippex livery first, followed by Mk2s, Cravens, Park Royals etc. Quote
Junctionmad Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 definitely one for the " prototype for everything " box Quote

Junctionmad Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 The other car looks like a starlet to me? Im looking at this pic and wishing I had the Mk2D to travel in , last week instead of the 29K. The 29K reminded me of the old bray service with leaky parkroyals and laminates Quote
Broithe Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 The other car looks like a starlet to me? Ah, that tapered rear pillar said "not Fiesta" to me, you could well be right - not a common car in the UK, as many as there were in Ireland.. Quote

I could be wrong of course, but screams starlet to me. Used to get a lift home from school in a 127, the hole in the floor reminded me of the flintstones! Quote
