jhb171achill Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Looks well in GSWR / GSR / CIE livery! ;-) Quote
Noel Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 It's great to see these 38yo locos being overhauled and put to good use. It is refreshing to see state capital assets sweated properly and exploited to the full of their operational lifespan. 080 looks very well. Quote
Railer Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Looks very well. It's getting hard keeping up with all these different number fonts and spacings between all the grey 071s. Quote
Weshty Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I want to know what that little A4 page cellotaped to the warning panel says. "wet paint"? Quote

Noel Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 (edited) Judging by the high quality of work around the window frames, I presume many of the original body panels and much of the super structure has been replaced over the decades during various major overhauls? Railer Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 The entire cabs are rebuilt, improved sound proofing and anti vibration measures are installed during this over haul program of the slate grey repaints. Most of the 071s going around are heavily corroded around their cabs. 072 and 073 are currently in a very bad way in this regard. Drivers have reported that it has made big improvements in the cab conditions for them of the overhauled 071s compared to the existing locos yet to be worked on. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 It's a fab photo alright. Grey livery is so nice. It's great to see 087 was rebuilt as by all accounts it was a wreck. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 The real 073 might have some corrosion Problems, but my two are just fine. Quote
Noel Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Wow what an Aladdin's cave of MM locos!!! PS: OP's photo of 080 in the workshop is a superb composition Quote

When I saw 087 in Inchicore about two years ago-I thought to myself that was the end of it, It was only a shell, no engine, cooling fans, radiators all were missing, It was great to see it brought back to life again.
